Another Knife Recommendation Ask

It all depends what you want out of a knife. If you want something heavy enough to hack snow from the wheelwells of your car, you can get a fairly heavy, large knife for under twenty bucks. If you want to do actual cutting, Cold Steel makes some excellent folders. The Voyager Tanto XL gives you a 5.5-inch AUS8A blade that is both heavy and can cut for a paltry $37 (including shipping). The tanto version is heavier and can penetrate very well, while its hollow grind blade makes it very attractive. You don't have to spend a lot of money on any of them. If you want to go carbon steel, a patch with BreakFree on it can protect your blade for more than a year. For self defense, you'll most likely want to take blade length into consideration. Cold Steel makes great knives especially made for this.

I don't know what the "beefiness" is going to get you, since stainless steel is more brittle than carbon steel due to the chrome content. If you want a sharpened prybar, carbon steel's your best bet. If you can stomach a 4.3" blade, try the Mora Bushcraft, which is thicker than their standard models (1/8") and available in stainless. Failing that, try the Cold Steel SRK, which is 3/16" thick with a 6" blade. It won't be as tough as the old carbon steel version, but it should be tough enough for trunk storage and rare use. Consider slathering the blade with cosmoline or something and replacing the factory sheath with good quality Kydex, as the factory sheaths are known to dull knives:

What about the SP8? I keep one in the tool compartment of my truck year round with no problems.
