The Native also comes with an s30v blade. This steel should have higher edge retention than the vg10, but the edge on my s30v Native tends to chip if I hit something hard. I would think that this would be a concern skinning animals. The s30v Native can be found at some Walmarts or ordered off of their sight and shipped free to any store for about forty dollars. At this price, it would be worth trying to see if the edge suffers any damage. S30v has one of the best edge retentions and wear resistance in a stainless steel.

i suggest you to try a Opinel #7 with a carbon steel blade for 10$ its pretty easy to sharpen...thats what i use for skinning small animals.I think you dont need a extraodinary steel that will hold an edge for one years....Opinel folder will not take long time to sharpen.

Look at the benchmade website and buy any knife they make that suits you with a D2 blade. D2 is high carbon tool steel and it will hold a great edge and is almost a stainless steel based on its composition. It will stain, but you have to really mistreat it to get it to stain. Benchmade does a great heat treat on their D2 knives. They take a little longer to sharpen since they are so hard on the edge, but once sharpened they stay sharp. I have all my D2 blades beveled at 15 degrees and if they loose their bite all it takes it a few swipes on a strop and they are back to shaving sharp.
