Another Kumar Kobra comes and goes. Take a look at the balance.

Uncle what is the 30" one gonna run as to cost?

I may be interested in one of these if I can fit it into my already blown to hell budget.

I am also gonna put in the same reasoning as Jim for the 5160M steel.

Not that the file would be out of line for such a piece, but for the general toughness of such a piece as this needs. What would perhaps be perfect is the file steel embeded in a sandwich of the 5160.
Then you would have the A$$ kickin edge of the harder steel with the toughness of the 5160.One like that with some tweakin over a period of time by the Kamis would soon approach the same qualites as the requirements for an ABS blade IMO.

Who knows the Kamis may have already used this technique in other applications. It is a pretty common Smithy's trick all over the world.

In 5160M I'm in, unless circumstances find me *totally* broke (

) and even then I'll try and work something out.

Jim you are right on about what you are seeing on the flat and such.
You didn't miss anything.

However this is getting close to what I was talking about with the
"lifted point" as gunhou says.
Then on down Gunhou says "yataghan."
I think something else was meant by that and not a reference to the raised point.
Perhaps if the point on this particular on was raised 1/2" or maybe even 3/8" in a very subtle curve like the yataghan it would be close to what I have in mind.
Actually they are more than fine just as they are.It coes down to those subtle differences in "handleing" and "feel" we all get to be familiar with over the years.

For example I got to handle one of those Ontario Helles Belle's at the G & K Show and I have to say that IF I was in the market for something of that order then I would have found it with that knife.
Snickersnee has stated about the guard on it being to abrupt and perhaps hurting the user on a hard stab and I had a tendency to agree with him until I picked one up.Somehow I don't believe it would be a factor being that abrupt on a hard stab now.
The "feel" and "handleing" on that knife is what I am talking about.
At least that's one that most of us can pick up and compare other knives with and gives us a common ground in discussing the "feel"and "handleing" of other knives.

Rusty I am not sure I understand what you are saying with the terms "thrusting" and "punch" now.
I thought I did before, but now I seem to be not "getting it" for some reason.Do you mean "thrusting" as in a sword type thrust?
Oh,wait.I went down and reread the "punch line" and I think I understand that now.I may also be confusing "thrust" with a "hammer grip stab." used in underhand and coming from below.

Part of it may be the time too.I am gettin old and need muh sleep.

Khukuri FAQ

Yvsa, as far as big light Bowies goes, Bill Bagwell "gets it", in spades. So does Ernie Mayer (Black Cloud) and Mad Dog and damn few others. To be honest, at some point we should give Kumar an Ontario Bagwell, he'd learn more about handling in just a few minutes with that thing than any amount of writing.

See, in a sense I think the kamis are "operating in a vacuum". They're not exposed to a wide array of styles and cultural blade heritages. I think broadening their experiences need not harm their ability to produce a traditional Khukuri, and we're liable to see all kinds of neat stuff trickle out.

Unfortunately a mockup won't do it in this case. I had NO idea you could balance a big blade until it seems to "evaporate" until I held a Mad Dog Panther. By GOD what a lovely piece. The Bagwells are nice too, but...well, "but" says it all.

Pakcik Bill.

I love this blade! I think I have log my name for it few months back (as well as a 14" Balance @ Baraba Khukuri)... but ... I got confuse with the name - is it the same with the one previously called as 18" + Kumar Bishwakarma Special?
