You can do whatever you want! If the foam doesn't end up melting (which I doubt it will) then you're fine. Whatever weird and odd things you can think of, just try them and i'm sure you'll find the perfect way to do it.

The best way is just to jump on in with both feet and do it!

Drill ALL holes before riveting if you plan on using any rivets as drilling causes excess to creep up underneath and between the folded kydex causing gap which you want to remove all excess junk before you do a final rivetting job.

One of the best sheath makers out there uses a big Wilton wood vise with foam.
