Another Large Chopper

I can only describe it as an elegant beast. Burt is a master about making big, but simpler and graceful knives.
ANd the wood is awesome!
Congrats!

.. but for sure it is a Golok Perak ..
Maybe Burt's version of Golok Perak is the best Golok Perak ever made so far

While waiting for the next pictures from Burt .. here is another picture of a Golok Perak

Just came back home from office! Anyhow it must be your early morning over there in your part of the world.

got some Foster flavour going on there. That's my guess anyway
Lorien, here I would like to congratulate you for being the very first one to correctly guess that Burt Foster is The Smith who made this particular blade! It greatly surprised me that you still could sort of trace Foster flavor even in the blackened state of his forged blade!

Here is what Burt commented about it ..

.. The thread you started was a cool idea to try to keep it a secret, I guess it was just too obvious. I hate that I'm that predictable! ..
:D

.. i love those big Foster "Fancy Choppers." ..
Thanks for your visit and your reply John, I'm honored :o

.. That sure is a beautiful Beast ..
and ..

I can only describe it as an elegant beast ..
Thanks to both of you Stabber and Javi! Your replies mentioned about beast! And it's my habit to give name to each of my knife! I haven't give any name to this Burt's work yet till I actually received it from the postal people but of course now The Beast is one of the choice! Thanks to both of you!

And I just got an email from Burt with a picture attachment of the finished rig which shows the Golok Perak, the leather sheath and the leather belt!

(Date: Fri, 9 Jul 2010 11:00:53 -0400) .. As to the sheath, I think my choice would be some kind of pouch style with no strap, .. The color .. A chestnut color though would look very nice I think. I just did a sheath that looks like it has inlays, but the inlays are just tooled into the leather. It looks very cool, and presents no problems with customs in getting upset about exotic skins. I also think that the "inlaid" look will flow more naturally with a knife like this than a tooled pattern would ..

(Date: Thu, 15 Jul 2010 21:52:14 -0400).. and got the sheath and belt finished up. Here's the final shot of all three. I thought about several directions I could go for the shape of the "inlays" and I settled on these two sort of intertwined shapes. The shape of the inlays reminds me very much of the shape of your traditional golok. I dyed the inlay area a shade darker for contrast and to deepen the illusion that it's an actual inlay.

What do you think? ..
Lots of lots of thanks Burt :D I know from the very beginning that I'm going to love this!

And now .. what do you all think?

.. And good looks never hurt ..
Nope! Believe me Roger .. in a way it always hurt me! Even Burt himself knows about it ..
