So, like has been my tradition for a while, I would like to host a giveaway! And, like in previous years, something is late with it, this year being me starting it late!!

But here it is!! Kris' birthday giveaway!!

The rules:
Enter to be entered! I would appreciate something extra- your favourite knife, your favourite knife picture that you've taken, your favourite picture from the forum, a story about kids and knives, a bit about your traditional journey-really anything! If something about me sticks out, let me know what my forum presence is like. Years ago I was blown away because Blues thought I didn't care for him! Nothing was further from the truth- but it did get me to try and watch how I presented myself. This way too maybe fewer people who only enter giveaways will try- it's about community, not just advancing your collection!

Actually I will ask that if you enter, that you will be willing to let the forum know it arrived and what you think of the package.

The prize?? Well, one has covers very much like this years forum knife, and another is not very much seen knife, but was much needed in years gone by. Oh, and there are some neat little add on's as well.

One winner? Two? I'm not sure yet, might be one, might be more.

I'll start by posting some of my favourite pictures I've taken:

This is my only traditional right now:

It was in my grandmother's house among some of my dad's old things in the bedroom he grew up in. We found it while we were clearing everything out of the house shortly after she passed away. My dad couldn't remember if it was my grandfather's or his best friend Chris' when we found it, but he was confident it belonged to one of them. Since I have always loved knives he told me to keep it saying that regardless of whose it was, they would probably be be happy if I were to keep it. Both of them passed away many years before I got to meet them but I've been told countless stories about them both since I was young and I almost feel like I know them anyway in a sense. I had the blade kept in a box of "treasures" so to speak for some time. About a year ago I picked it up and held it and had a sort of eye opening experience with it. The rounded edges of the handle and the thin blade made me realize that there are some serious shortcomings with modern knives in the way that they slice and the way that they feel in the hand during extended use. It sparked my interest in traditionals. I picked up a Canal Street Cutlery Moon Pie Trapper in Cocobolo to try one out and loved it. Later on a close friend of mine was admiring the blade to a large degree and he had NEVER admired any of the knives I'd carried before. He's very difficult to please. At that time I told him to keep it. He's carried the Canal Street ever since. He never even carried a knife before that.

After that I didn't carry a traditional for a while, but my interest re-sparked a week or so ago so I ordered a GEC African Blackwood Dixie Stockman to try out. It should arrive tomorrow and will be my first carbon steel traditional knife. I am still VERY new to traditionals overall. Count me in on the Giveaway, please. If I had a better picture to submit I would, but I have only the camera on my phone and only this old heirloom knife to show.

I'm impressed that you are using your birthday as a time to give rather than to receive, by the way. You have me looking at myself right now and wondering if I'd be too vain to do something similar. I'm afraid it may be the case, so maybe next year when my birthday rolls around I'll consider taking your idea and running with it. It seems like a good way to improve one's character to give during a time when most would expect only to receive.

Thanks Kris. I like your presence as you tell it how it is whilst remaining polite, what more can one ask? Sometimes we really need to remember just how few we are in this vast world, how very few people follow and enthuse over Traditional knives as we do. All those who admire Traditional knives are my comrades and this forum plus the internet has allowed my interest, knowledge and collection to blossom, a kind of knife enlightenment if you like. In everyday life I hardly ever, if ever, meet others who share my passion for older style knives or any knives for that matter! But here, one is understood, always. Which is why GAWs are so frequent here, and usually 'properly' followed as well with humour and respect, not just trough seekers!

Here's a pic of mine that came out quite well with bleak and blasted backround. Thanks, Will.

I'll play, count me entered. I've jumped in feet first into traditionals buying 4 this month, with a few requested knives on the way from family members (grandparents knives). Here are a few of my favorite pics I've taken:

I think the most striking thing about this forum in particular is the generosity of it's members. There are so many giveaways here and members seem overly willing to help each other out and not gouge each other on prices. It's refreshing.

EDIT: Somehow my post made itself a second time? Not sure how that happened so far apart.

Lots of eye candy in this thread, by the way.

I'll tell you a knife story. Monday night I was at cub scouts. I'm the assistant den leader. Well, we are working on knife safety with the 8yo's. The den leader...a 40 year old ...pulls out a pocket knife that he said he borrowed from his teenage son, because he didn't own one.... My jaw dropped. Here I am with 3 and a leatherman. I also am 40 and can count the days on one hand that I haven't had at least one knife on me since age 8. Oh well. My 8yo owns 4 at this time.

I'm in BTW.

I really don't need any more knives but happy birthday. You should get your forum knife just in time. When I was in grade 5 I got a prize for penmanship. It was a " Premier Lifetime " jack knife. I can't imagine what would happen now if an 11 year old was given a knife by his teacher. I had been carrying a knife to school for a while before this.

Great pics and thanks for the chance! I dont have any pics to add, but I got into traditionals when I saw a used schrade 8OT in an antique shop and I bought it, the patina, scratches and use on it intrigued me as to where it had been and what it did, that was the first traditional I ever bought (around 3 years ago). Since then my interest in traditionals goes up and down, everytime my interest resparks I buy more knives and research more history of different patterns and their purposes why they were made and stuff like that. I would say without a doubt the large stockman is my favorite pattern so thats what I usually carry, among others too:D

Hope you're going to have a good birthday Kris, and thanks for doing this, it's become a bit of a tradition in its own right :)

Some great pics. Jeff, those knives are outstanding my friend

I currently have this pic on the front page of my home PC. Charlie's Diamond Radio Jack very quickly became one of my favourite knives, and the photo reminds me of a great day out at the seaside in good company (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Knife-Heading-For-The-Coast-(more-at-post-41) ), and that the miserable British weather won't be here forever! :D

Thanks for the chance.

Probably my favorite knife pic I have snapped: with my favorite knife. J. Oeser large gunstock.

There's some great pics getting posted! Thanks for the chance to post a couple of my favs.

I have a longer reply for when I'm not on the train to work, but thanks for the replies all!! And here is a tease I thought I would throw in!!
