Another late birthday giveaway!!

Hey Chris -

Thanks for the giveaway. My Birthday's coming up so I'll jump in for the chance at a surprise. Here's a favorite pic of a trusty Old Bone Camillus Scout.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway. I have been a forum member on several knife forums and none of them have the same type of atmosphere as this one. The generosity and the humbleness that exist here is what keeps me coming back day after day. Plus traditionals are the bees knees.

There have been some amazing shots on this thread.

Love mystery gaws! I am grateful for the chance and hope you had a great birthday. Count me in. Sorry if this a bit overboard, but thought I would show how traditionals are more than just tools for me.

Most of my knives are connected to some aspect of my life in different ways. Not all of them, but here a few of my favorite shots along with the ones that do mean more than a tool.

One of the coolest wallets I have owned. Made by a valued forum member here. Thanks again Jone.

My daughter has Glanzmann's disorder and had complications at birth. We had to stay in the hospital a while and were released on this knife's production date. I carry it on that day as a reminder to be grateful and reflect on how blessed I am.

My dad has Parkinson's disease and there was only one style of knife he could carry and use. This is a shot before I gave it to him.

Lastly, These two have the same production date as when my wife and I started dating. I know to some that is cheesy, but to me, it carries a story along with them that connects the most valued aspect of my life.

Thanks again. Fun and very cool gaw.

Kris, thanks for the opportunity to win a mystery knife (with clues ); count me in for your fun GAW! I guess I haven't been around long enough to have formed an opinion of your "forum presence", but sponsoring annual birthday GAWs would indicate to me that you must be incredibly generous. I'll post a photo of a favorite knife. It's a little Imperial serpentine jack, probably from the 1960s, that my wife thinks her father used to carry and eventually gave it to her, maybe in the late 70s. Anyway, we've been married for almost 30 years and I had never seen the knife until last January, when my wife found it in a box and showed it to me. It was pretty grungy, but I enjoyed cleaning it up and trying to sharpen it. Once I was finished I decided that, after 45 years of going knifeless, I was going to start carrying a knife every day like I did when I was a kid; I also decided that I'd like to start finding other old knives that I could refurbish and carry. And so the madness began! :D Anyway, it's been a fun 10 months since I first saw this knife, and I've learned so much, especially in this forum.

Hope you enjoy your birthday in a week, Kris!

This is my only traditional right now:

It was in my grandmother's house among some of my dad's old things in the bedroom he grew up in. We found it while we were clearing everything out of the house shortly after she passed away. My dad couldn't remember if it was my grandfather's or his best friend Chris' when we found it, but he was confident it belonged to one of them. Since I have always loved knives he told me to keep it saying that regardless of whose it was, they would probably be be happy if I were to keep it. Both of them passed away many years before I got to meet them but I've been told countless stories about them both since I was young and I almost feel like I know them anyway in a sense. I had the blade kept in a box of "treasures" so to speak for some time. About a year ago I picked it up and held it and had a sort of eye opening experience with it. The rounded edges of the handle and the thin blade made me realize that there are some serious shortcomings with modern knives in the way that they slice and the way that they feel in the hand during extended use. It sparked my interest in traditionals. I picked up a Canal Street Cutlery Moon Pie Trapper in Cocobolo to try one out and loved it. Later on a close friend of mine was admiring the blade to a large degree and he had NEVER admired any of the knives I'd carried before. He's very difficult to please. At that time I told him to keep it. He's carried the Canal Street ever since. He never even carried a knife before that.

After that I didn't carry a traditional for a while, but my interest re-sparked a week or so ago so I ordered a GEC African Blackwood Dixie Stockman to try out. It should arrive tomorrow and will be my first carbon steel traditional knife. I am still VERY new to traditionals overall. Count me in on the Giveaway, please. If I had a better picture to submit I would, but I have only the camera on my phone and only this old heirloom knife to show.

I'm impressed that you are using your birthday as a time to give rather than to receive, by the way. You have me looking at myself right now and wondering if I'd be too vain to do something similar. I'm afraid it may be the case, so maybe next year when my birthday rolls around I'll consider taking your idea and running with it. It seems like a good way to improve one's character to give during a time when most would expect only to receive.

Mightbewrong!! You get the secondary prize!!

Please let me know where to shop these prizes to!!

Congratulations to the winners!

Thanks for your generosity, Kris, and I hope your birthday was a happy one.
By the way, did I miss a post where you revealed what the "secret knives" are, or is that information coming later? The suspense is killing me :D

Sent an email to the one linked to your account here. I really appreciate it! Thanks for the chance. :)

I've got your info and will hopefully get a couple of packages out tomorrow!!

5K?'s- I've only given the one picture of the hint, I'm hoping that the winners will share the rest with everybody. Plus this way I'm still flexible with what ships out! Thanks for all of thecreues and entires, I purposefully didn't bump this giveaway as I wanted it to be more pure from those who entered first, might as well help your chances!!

I will be sure to get some info up when the package arrives. I like that it's a surprise, I don't get many surprises nowadays.

I will definitely be posting pictures when my package arrives. Since I'm too old for Christmas presents I like surprises like this one.

Thought I would post what my "secret prize" was from this great giveaway. I have to admit that I was pretty anxious for this one because I just love the surprise factor of it. So when it arrived last night I was excited to tear open the package, which was no easy task. Not only was there a great knife in the package there was also some great knife "stuff". My wife could not understand why I was so excited about this "stuff", but nevertheless I was. To make this even better the knife that was in the box was very similar to one that I just put on my wish list at CCK.

I was excited to learn that what I thought was a grafting knife is actually a "steel ink eraser". Being the fountain pen nut that I am, I was shocked that I have never seen one of these before.
Thanks again Kris for the great GAW.

Wow, that's really a great package there! Congrats on the win! Kris, somehow I missed this thread entirely, but thank you for such a generous GAW! You should have some good karma coming your way for this.

Thanks again Kris for the great GAW.

Thanks for posting what you won in Kris' birthday GAW, ms3902. That's a mighty impressive package you received!:thumbup:
Exquisite Northfield, and very interesting ink eraser; I don't recall ever seeing something like that before, either.
Do you have plans for the "spare parts" you showed?

Kudos again to you, Kris, for your generosity, and for the suspenseful GAW you sponsored!

Sorry this took me a few days, I work a good sized chunk of the week and then get a bunch of days off.

I'm not too versed in what's what in traditionals yet, so if anybody could give me details on these I'd appreciate it:

Like MS3902 mentioned, got some "knife stuff" here. A blade as-is before grinding, another fully ground blade, and a scale. The pre-ground blade is really cool IMO. Then there's the US Made pocket knife that's like a Victorinox Pioneer with a jigged handle. I'm not good enough to tell if it's jigged bone or plastic! :P I would love some history on this one if anybody has it. Lastly, there's a little Schrade here. Saw cut bone with thin little blades. It's even smaller than a Peanut! I think someday it'll be a good first knife for a little one.

Thanks, Kris! I am really excited about this US Made knife in particular. It really seems like a cool piece of history.
