Another micarta thread, another group buy, linen micarta, black

I'd be in for a box of 3/8". Just let me know if you need money up front.

Thanks,
SDS

There is enough interest here, so I'll put together the order tomorrow. I should get it in and cut up in about a week.

I'll do a sale thread when it is ready, it will be first come first serve. I'll bump this thread when I do that.

In that thread you can state your purchase in the thread and send an email to me.

The email should include your BladeForums handle (i.e.: "Nathan the Machinist"), your actual name, your shipping address and your paypal email address.

I will send a PayPal invoice to that email. Once it is paid, I will ship your order to the name and address you gave in your order email.

If you don't want to use paypal, I'll email you my address and you can send a check.

I calculated my yield at 8 boxes 1/4" and 7 boxes of 3/8". There has been more interest in the 3/8" than I'll have supply. I'll talk to my supplier and see if he can extend the discount to a new sheet (I was buying drops)

If you're curious, so far the total sale value is $495, my cost $465.50. My total profit: $29.50 plus I'll keep the scraps. I'll probably eat that up in a saw blade and beer.

I'll get this going tomorrow.

Thanks all,
Nathan

I'll take a box of 1/4", but I'd prefer a box of half & half - a couple of sheets of 3/8" and 3 sheets (to the wind?) of 1/4.

I'd be glad to do a pre-order too.

Edit:

Due to the interest in this, I asked my material supplier for full sized new sheets rather than buy his old drops. Paying his incoming freight defeats the purpose of this buy so he will add it to the next shipment he gets in (whenever that is) and I'll go down to Charlotte and pick it up. It may be a couple weeks before I get it, but at least I'll have enough for everybody. Doing it this way (buying new material) increases the price of the material, but the larger size of the sheet improves the yield by reducing scrap. So it is a wash in that respect. My yields will be:

16 boxes of 1/4"
24 boxes or 3/8"

I'm hoping I can move all this. :o

I'll let you all know when it comes in.

Thanks

Thanks for the updates and the work you've put into this, Nathan. I'll be sure to watch for the sale thread. I don't think you'll have any problem moving this stuff.

Nathan of course it makes sense that you'll post this in the sale forum when you have the boxes ready, but because I almost never have time to read any forum other than this one, would one of you fine gents try to remember to give me a heads up when they're on there? Otherwise I'm likely to miss it completely. Thanks. :)

Group buy, black linen micarta in bulk

Okay folks. I bought a significant amount of high quality black linen micarta (from a friendly vendor of mine that I buy a lot of plastic from) at a really good price and cut it up and put it into bulk flat rate boxes for you fine folks.

I bought more than people spoke for. But I'm selling this at about half the going rate, so I hope it will go quickly. There will be 16 boxes of 1/4" and 24 boxes of 3/8". You can buy more than one box.

This is the real phenolic based material, not epoxy or polyester. It is hard, strong, stable, chemically inert and truly black. It is linen based, so it is stronger and more grippy than paper base, but not as pronounced as canvas based.

This sale is borderline in violation of the new policy regarding nondealers selling large amounts of materials. But I talked to Spark about it first.

I'm not about to piss that guy off.

But he said that because I'm not significantly marking it up and I'm doing this with altruistic intentions it will slide.

However - that means this is a one time thing. I will not be doing this again.

It is about 8.5 by 5.2" to fit in a standard small flat rate box, which will ship for 5 bucks. There are 6 sheet of 1/4" or 4 sheets of 3/8" for $33.00 plus 5 bucks shipping = $38 per box = a lot of knives

This is going to be a lot of folks for me to keep up with. So to keep things simple this is what I need you to do to order this.

1: Go to this thread : http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7156627#post7156627 and state what you will be getting.

2: send me an email (not a private message)
The email should include what you are buying, your BladeForums handle (i.e.: "Nathan the Machinist"), your actual name, your shipping address and your paypal email address.

I will send a PayPal invoice to that email.

3. Pay the paypal invoice. Once it is paid, I will ship your order to the name and address you gave in your order email.

If you don't want to use paypal, we can arrange to send a check.
