Since the last mini finished so quickly, I decided to start another. This one is less formal... just for fun. Made from a small thin piece of damascus.

Your dagger came out nice Greg, but this one looks like it is a little - sad, I guess you could say! Haha, I'll be watching this one go along.

Very cool. I am really looking forward to seeing this one.

The profile refined. I'm leaving the tang oversized for now so that I have something solid to clamp the blade in place for filing and sanding.

wow i thought mini as in 4-5 inch blade, that thing is tiny, very well done mate really must take alot of skill that

Looking more like a knife now and less like...nevermind! Gonna be a cool little slicer, looks to be right about 1/8 to 1/10 scale? Just be careful in that apex of the recurve, I found it easy to get real thin right there without even trying. The directional change causes you to naturally exurt more pressure there without realizing it.

Xander,

As to scale, I honestly have no clue. The only reference point I have is a picture in a book. No measurements were available.

Thanks, Judd. I thought I'd already posted pics of the handle piece I started. Must have posted it in the wrong thread. Anyway, it's a piece of mammoth ivory scrap... currently oversized. I went through a few other pieces before finding this one. I was looking for something with a more or less uniform brown color.

I just did as much shaping with the 1x30 as I dare on the handle. The rest will be done with files and sandpaper.

That ivory looks like wood. It's gonna look great man. Any plans for a sheath for it?

I usually don't attempt sheaths for my minis, as the stitching would be outta whack.

I started work on the bolster today, and took it as far as I could with the grinder. Again, the rest will be files and sandpaper.

Unfortunately, the work to get the bolster sized caused a crack in the handle... back to the beginning on that one.

I fitted another piece of mammoth ivory bark and started filing it to shape. It has no obvious striations, like the other handle had, but also has no cracks. As you can see, I'm still working toward the traditional flared butt. Still a lot of shaping to do.
