another mountain lion attack

Poor dog, I would have grabbed the knife at my beside and charged the Couger if it had my dog in it's mouth. Then again, I wouldn't have had the doors open either. I'm still kind of surprised that it actually went inside the house to begin with, and the dogs didn't bark or at least yelp.

:grumpy: This is about a mile from my house. You might recall Mark Reynolds was killed in the same area 4 or 5 years ago. And they just reopened the park after being closed for the last 10 months from the fires last fall.

PORTOLA HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- A hiker was injured by a mountain lion after petting one of three cubs near Portola Hills in Orange County.
It happened when the hiker was out for a walk and came across three mountain lion cubs. Allegedly, even though the man knew the mother mountain lion was nearby, he pet one of the cubs. That's when the mountain lion lunged at the man and scratched him.
The man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities are now looking for the mountain lion and the cubs.

Wow. I have no problem shooting a lion if it comes after me or my family, but I have to say this guy got pretty much what he deserved. If someone is so stupid as to pet cubs whilst knowing the mother is nearby, they deserve to get mama's punishment.

Denver Post is reporting another incident on Tuesday where hikers faced, shot and killed a mountain lion stalking them. This occurred near Newcastle on Colorado's Western Slope.

In the Western Slope case, a couple were walking on a road about 2 miles north of New Castle, about 170 miles west of Denver, when a mountain lion emerged from bushes alongside the road.

The two told state wildlife officers that they yelled, waved their arms and backed away slowly, trying to scare the mountain lion away without startling it.

But the couple said the mountain lion was down low and kept moving toward them. The man drew a pistol he was carrying and shot the cat.

"Our investigation shows the mountain lion was about 6 feet away before the man fired a shot," Colorado Division of Wildlife spokesman Randy Hampton said

Meanwhile Once Upon A Time In Mexico:

ACAPULCO, Mexico—A Mexican woman says she fought a 500-pound lion with a machete near the resort city of Acapulco and scared him away.
Celsa Aleman said she and her 7-year-old niece were riding a donkey Monday along a road when the lion went after the animal's legs.

The 35-year-old woman said she found the courage to fight the lion because she thought it would attack her niece.

She said she hit the animal with a machete until the beast ran away and Aleman and her niece were unharmed.

The state government said in a statement that the lion had escaped from a private zoo owned by a former local congressman. It said the animal killed two dogs and ate a pig before it was sedated and taken back to the zoo.
