Any idea in terms of pricing? I tried looking for it on Bladeforums and the Spyderco forums, but no luck... :(

Each run will be priced different........ depending on steel used. At least that is my understanding.
Hope this helps...........

I think teacher answered it correctly. Small batches of steel can vary in price quite a bit, dependent on the alloys needed and to some degree, when the manufacturer bought the alloys. For example, if a melt shop stocked up on nickel three years ago, they would currently be undercutting their competition by quite a bit, while still making a nice profit. My wife works for a steel mill, and the trucks of alloys are now running well over 100K per truck, depending on which one.

Well yes, but with a close release date Spyderco has to have SOME idea in terms of pricing....

A stainless steel tanker truck full of gas is worth way more than most armoured cars now because of the value of the steel and the gas.

Is there a close release date!!!!!

Spyderco hasn't announced a steel or price for the next Mule. Sal or Kristi will post details here, and on the Spyderco factory forum, when they are ready.

Hi Kim Lau,

As mentioned, the price will vary depending on the cost of production. There are variations in steel costs as well as processing each steel. When we have the blades completed and ready to ship, we then know our costs. We add a small margin and announce their cost.

Currently we haved batches of CPM-M4, CPM-S90V, ZDP-1989, 9Cr18Mo in-the-works.

Which ever batch is completed first will ship next. Then we'll wait. We think about 4 monhs apart might be best for all involved.

We've gotten several more foundries interested in "playing".

I am hoping for the M4 but I will buy all of them.
It sounds like there will be some China made mules as well.
"Chules"?

It would be neat if you could issue some without telling people what the steel was so we could get better data. I have a theory that people think they have a better performing knife if that is what they expect out of the steel. I know that is not really doable but it is an interesting thought.

So from the steel it would seem that we will be getting a Japanese Mule a Chinese Mule and 2 American mules?

The only issue I have is there are already knives available in ZDP189(unless ZDP 1989is a new different steel and not a typo) and S90V. I had hoped that there would be more exotic unused steels but I will still be really interested to get a couple new mules to test against the 52100. Also i bet the Chule will be in the 40$ range which should make for some happy campers.

Is that a typo or is it a new ZDP steel?
anyway that's great, I wanted to try S90V, M4, and it'll be great to compare them with ZDP-189, or try the new ZDP steel.
Is the 9Cr18Mo a candidate for future Byrds/Tenacious? I'm not steel-knowledgeable enough to know what more molybdenum and no vanadium will change, but I'm in for an MT knife in this steel too.

Healing time for the wallet, good news for the least wealthy of us (did I hear "almost all of us"?).

:D great news! I hope the customer side will follow, for the success of this project.

I wonder how much the 9Cr will be, maybe even cheaper than 40$.

My mule is a perfect necker and I wear it more than any other blade now that I have the OST sheath.
