I just got my first Mule in the mail today, the CPM S90V. I have one question. What are the little notches in all the 3/16" holes for?

One possibility is they are start points for the laser cutter. Or they may be deliberate, to accomodate a key pin to prevent the main pin from turning in the hole (for the really, really picky people ;))

Looking at one of mine, I notice that it is only on the smallest holes, which leads me to believe that the lanyard hole (next size larger) is the smallest hole their lasers can cut without including that little dimple. As for why that is, I don't build laser cutters, so I can't tell you.

yablanowitz, your initial conclusion was correct. Spyderco chose to start the smaller holes just outside the perimeter of the laser cut. Its apparent to me (used to R&D/build industrial lasers) that the cut could start inside the plug for a smooth hole, as in the larger holes.....
