I have a friend that works at a local shooting range and asked him awhile back to keep his eye out for a 1911. I have a Dan Wesson, but I wanted something else that I wouldn't hesitate to carry. Ironically, Im an old school guy in my gun tastes so I was pretty picky as to what I was looking for. Well, I received a phone call today so I went down this evening to check out some guns. There was a guy that brought in about 10 1911s from his personal collection that were on cosignment. He had some outstanding guns for sale at crazy good prices. There were two Dan Wessons, a Wilson Combat, STI, Colt, and a couple Springers, Kimber, and a Remington. I have always like the Springers for base stock guns since they are forged and are a solid platform to upgrade. Well, there were two there, A basic GI and a Loaded model. The Loaded had the front serrations, which I don't like, but it had a match grade Kart barrell that locked up tight as could be. The other was a basic GI upgraded with an Ed Brown Beavertail, Cylinder and Slide trigger, Blacked out rear and front Nite Site, Ed Brown checkered mainspring, flared ejection port, and upgraded barrel bushing, and upgraded Ed Brown hammer. The trigger on this one was absolutely killer! Probably the best trigger Ive ever felt. Needless to say, I bought it. Its also serial numbered NM too boot which means it was assembled in the US. All of this for...are you ready...$650.00!
I only need some new grips, front strap stippling, and Melonite finish to make it my perfect 1911. This gun should have sold for 1000-1300 with all the work done and it was all done by my gunsmith so I know it was done right.
