Howdy gentleman,
So I've been lurking this forum for a few weeks, and I've pretty much consumed myself with as much knowledge as my little brain can handle. First of all I want to say thank you to everyone who has poured their knowledge and experience into this forum for us newbies.

ok now to the down and dirty. Like most people budget is low and I have limited space, as in i live in an apartment.
my plan is to make a 6in fixed blade and leather wrap the handle. i am probably going to use 1080 1 1/2x1/8x12" from Texas knife supply because it's only 15 bucks shipped. I have a 4 in angle grinder from my welding days and I can use the apartments workshop to do that.so I was going to use some flap disks and files for the work, build a coffe can forge with plaster of paris and sand. and just HT it in the parking lot. so is this doable (by do able I mean will it make a good enough knife for EDC that I can be proud of) or should I pony up for aldos 1084 or some 52100 and send off for HT?
Thank you again

Plaster of Paris and sand is a terrible insulator. Use furnace cement watered down to a soft ice cream consistency and mix 1 part of that to 4 parts perlite. Both of these items can be found at a big box hardware store.

For a knife that small, you might just get a couple of firebricks and make a simple firebrick forge.

ok so firebricks and some angle iron for transportation and hold it together it is. thank you again gentleman.

Trust me, this is the best you are going to get. Darrin is an amazing heat treater.
