BG-42/S90V/etc., are peel-ply (very fine checkered pattern). The Sage is woven, IIRC.

I have a Lg Seb in BG-42, and a slew of BM's in M390.
Blade style makes them tough to compare though.
I really like 'em both but am unable to give a technical comparison.
Both hold a great edge, but M390 seems to stay sharper longer.
Also, both touch up very easy.
But, have never let them dull to the point of having to move lots of metal.
Am sure others here can throw out all the tech jargon.
I did photo this CATRA chart from Blade last month.
Might help a little....

This should be 1/2 the e-bay price of the older model's. There is reason enough right there. LOL LOL
$425-$450 seems the norm these days. So I bet these will be good sellers if they come in at 1/2 of that.

BG-42 isn't listed, but you can get a general idea how M390 performs.
Some tests put M390 in the same league as M-4 and S90V in edge retention, good stuff for sure.
My BG-42 comment was saying that M390 in today's market is comparable to what BG-42 was in the knife market five years ago. Not the best in terms of edge retention but pretty close to it, and it gets there by being a refined steel rather than loading up on certain elements.

I am speaking of the CF M390 Mil, MCM #39
We will be putting it up soon, We will limit it 2 per customer since it is a
larger run of 800, We are getting a lot of emails, The delivery date is
around April 2012, but a lot of customers are wanting to pre-order now, so I
am going to try to put is up this week.
