Another New One!

I'm not normally a big "hawk" guy, but that is sweet. There's just something about it. Great job, John.

For those who ordered one, be sure to enter the contest (you can find it on John's forum) for a chance to win $50 toward your new toy.

I desperately want to find out how well it throws!!!

I can`t warranty the handles if it will be thrown. I was thinking of making a version for throwing, with no handles, just holes in case the buyer wanted to cord wrap it.

Here is a blade cover I just finished for it.

I'm already anxious to get mine. I thought about orange g10 to match my Kephart, but I really like the look of the oak.

That's awesome, John. Maybe also offer a "spike-hawk" version?

Who'll be the first to post pics of this bad boy in action???!!!!

Of course not, I wouldn't expect a warranty on the handle if thrown.... I like your thinking on a bare handle that could be wrapped.

I like that blade cover John, thanks.
I hope to be the first with action pics next week when I get it M3mphis(it shipped today!)
I'll be getting it at work & will take it out back & chop up a 4x4 for y'all & give my impressions.
I have a traditional hawk from Kentucky I've used in camp a couple of times & love throwing it.
So I think this will be my dedicated camp hawk.
The 1/4" thickness will be perfect for splitting & making kindling vs the big eye of the trad.hawk.
I might have to throw it a couple of times just to see how it does though.

I've never even thrown the hawk that I do have, but I really want to throw this one. Im interested in getting mine as a cord wrap version.

Here is a quick and crude cut out of what I was imagining. The spike length is 2 inches which I think is what I would want. I'm not too thrilled with my spike design though so I'd like to see what you could come up with.

That would take 6" wide stock, which would put it in a higher price range.

I can live with that haha. Any ideas for the spike design? Im just wanting something that is pleasing to the eye, but that could take some punishment if needed

Maybe just give that spike a bit of a curved belly...something like this:

Better yet maybe this:

Cheers!

OMG!A bottle opener on a knife is bad enough, now you want one on a hawk too?Geeze.:rolleyes:LOL.
Just kidding M3 as I know you were.(hopefully);)

M3mphis I like the curve you gave it. I was thinking a nice curve like the head has would be good. I just lack any artistic ability and figured a straight line would be easier for me. What about a bottle opener built into the blade cover?

As I just bought a house and need to furnish it, I can't afford one yet. But maybe for a Christmas wish list.......

The two problems I see are I could not sharpen the curved part of the spike, and would not make a full head cover to cover the spike. Maybe something like this, but with the shorter overall length like the hawk?
