Last post on this forum guys.

Many of you, Obsessed with edges, Martin, Ken B, Teddy and so many more; it has been a pleasure to get to know you. Great give and take with exchange of ideas and technique. I've learned a great deal.

To those of you who run their mouths without foundation or knowledge; petty insulting comments looking for a spotlight to bath in; I find you to be pathetic creatures and I will not suffer you.

Feel bad about abandoning the ship; a second degree black belt here, I understand doing battle but there is no battle to be fought, just dodging crap thrown by keyboard warriors without substance.

I'll be on the for sale forum if I'm needed, Fred

Sorry to hear that Fred, I enjoyed beta testing your field sharpener, you have a field expedient sharpened that fills a void.

I still recommend your system especially for the outdoor stuff I do, I keep a diamond hone with me most times anyway but your system is infinitely adjustable and serves a need.

Thanks Fred, I'll be keeping an eye out for you on the sales forum.

Fred - I've a few BF flak jackets, do you want to borrow one . Oh wait, I mistakenly my thick skin for flak jackets :p This forum or most others share similarity with class & squad in BF (battle field). Spawn at will - KD be damn!

I hate to see this, Fred. As strange as it may sound, the tone of most (but not all) posters here in the Maint forum has gotten better than it was a few years ago (I won't get into that). But it still does nobody any good, if even one good voice is driven out by the persistent closed-minded yammering of knuckleheads. I've personally not agreed with every idea or comment that came along in here, but I've always learned something new in considering ideas intelligently presented. I generally find that mean-spirited trolls eventually take themselves out of the picture by rendering moot any sense of credibility and therefore any reason to stay around (or to be allowed to stay).

I hope we'll continue to hear from you down the road. I mean that.

David

Sorry to read you are leaving. I have learned a great deal here and hate it when good people quit posting.

Fred, Don't give up the ship. The naysayers don't know what you have contributed to the
knowledge base. They contribute nothing but ignorance.

Remember, inexperienced idiots contribute nothing of value.

Bill

P.S. Hope to see you in Troy.

Fred, I consider myself a knowledgeable community member, and I have read your posts with curiosity and an open mind to learning, of which I did often based on the content of your posts.

I hope this isn't in regard to the 'field sharpening' thread, where a poster challenged your posts about your ERU. I honestly think he was trying to post an 'option based' opinion, and just did it poorly. Those of us with open minds, looking to garner knowledge and experience from others, definitely value folks like you who have a lot of experience and knowledge to bring to the table.

I will be one to plead you to stay, from a member who values you as a fellow member.

Best regards Fred--Don

Don, I couldn't have said it better, I hope Fred reconsiders and stays.

Sorry to see you go my friend, but your words ring true with me.

I have no idea who you are. It was not any sort of personal attack. That was my first time hearing about your sharpening tool, and there was very little information about it. Even Google pointed me straight back here, to another thread further down this page.

Try to see it from a different perspective: you walk into a BBQ store and the salesman points at one and says "that's the best one". Don't you want to know why?

Fred,

I know how you feel, lately I have let things out of my control, to gain momentum. I get really specific in my thoughts and I feel really bad. It's like a car parked on top of a big hill. If it starts moving forward or backwards and I hit the brakes right away, I can stop it. But if it gains momentum and I try to stop it when the car is at the bottom of the hill, it's impossible.

I go general with my thoughts (this really sucks). Or (this to shall pass) I go from specific negative to general negative. Then after some relaxation, distractions, I can go to general positive. Then I can feel really good when I get to specific positive.
There's a big difference in passionate for something or frustrated and angry. But I can not jump from anger to passionate. I have to scale out of it. Anger to frustration to relaxed to peaceful and so on.

May not be my place to comment since I'm very new here but I've been lurking for awhile and this is one of the friendliest forums I've ever been on. There's a lot of keyboard warriors and trolls out there online and if you take their bait you'll get angry. You just have to look past them and ignore them. If you're leaving based on that one thread where the guy was questioning your sharpener, with all due respect you should really have some thicker skin no offense. When you make a product, people WILL criticize and question your product, motives, etc. Many will call you out in an unfriendly manner. My advice, and it's just my opinion, is don't take these things personally. That's just my opinion. The reason I like this forum so much is because of people like you that do wonderful things and give great advice to newcomers like myself. I truly hope you reconsider. Either way, I wish you the best and thank you for all of your input to this forum.

It's called the ERU, he created a nice PRECISION built field sharpener. Some of use remained skeptical due to cheaper goods that work on similar principle which are not precise or anywhere where near thought out. That's the gist of it to my very vague understanding as I haven't kept up with the ERU or whats been going on, you will probably learn more by reading through the threads.

Fred, I am sorry to see you leave M, T & E, as you have contributed enormously to this forum. I can understand your feelings in regards to the "hit and run" and nameless forum trolls that get their power from being nameless and faceless. I have stopped reading and participating in this forum as a whole, a lot less than I did at one time due to the same reasons, and other reasons due to the forum moderating. It once was a fun and enlightening place to gain knowledge. Not to be misleading, it still has some very nice and knowledgeable people on here, with lots of things to learn.

Maybe I am just becoming less tolerant in my old age! I was one of the lucky ones to get to try out your ESU and found it to be a very well made and thought out piece of gear. I think it is a great portable/pocketable field sharpener that will be a great tool to have for hunters, and outdoorsmen. It can put a nice useable edge back on a knife that has been dulled from use in the field in just a few minutes. It will not replace a bench sharpener such as a Wicked Edge and others like it, but I don't think your intent was for it to do such. I hope you have great success with it and wish you well!

As a very intelligent person once told me, If you quit or don't show up, the other guy wins by default. I pray that you will reconsider and hang around for the betterment of this part of the forum.

Blessings,

Omar

Fred, you had thicker skin when you started...

I agree with David, the overall tone has become way more tolerant/helpful in the last few years. There will always be contrary opinions about every viewpoint, method, or philosophy - defending or explaining them in the face of the toughest criticism (if one chooses to do so) is how they become more developed and better understood. This helps everyone. The more folks understand (about sharpening) in general, the less critical they tend to be toward that which conflicts with their own viewpoint, method, philosophy, at least not without well developed first hand knowledge.

You know this is just a sad state of affair's when a guy like Fred feels that he can't participate and better this forum . I know I will see him around at KD but it is here where I met Fred. Fred took time to offer a hand to me when I was having difficulty with doing tapered tangs. I am not talking about a few quick tips with a stroke of a few keys but with a phone call . He is a honest hard worker who has a lot to offer and does it without a patronizing quip . It's not a matter of thick skin its a matter of respect or lack of it given by members who have nothing to offer except negative one liners or some other nonsense . Geez

Fred, You're a knowledgeable, valuable member and I wish you would reconsider toward not departing. I agree, there is arrogance and snipping in the forum from those that lack real world experience. But that's the way some computer chat rooms go. One has to have manners to know manners. I've thought of leaving numerous times myself but I give it a few days, shake it off and come back to avoid that person. Please reconsider coming back. DM
