Defenitely Japanese knotweed. VERY invasive. I'm seeing much more of it here in the last 10 yrs. It will completely take over most environments I've seen it in. We cut it down and use a small paint brush to apply herbicide to cut stumps--KV
Fabulous pics. I always enjoy your posts...I like the photos and learn stuff too. Thanks!
Yes, it is really taking over, but guess what , it is edible! Pick the tender shoots when they first come up, or from the tops. Remove the leaves, then steam, roast,or bake the shoots, like Asparagus or Rubarb. In Japan it is quite popular, they have spring knotweed festivals! You can eat it until it becomes tough and woody, generally mid June. I don't think we can eat enough to get rid of it though, it just grows back.
very nice pictures as always man. looks like a great trip. what camera do you use?
Epic post, really wonderful pictures!z
those little worms are inch worms.
great pictures. at first I thought you were hiking Central Park.
LOVE THE INSECT PICTURES, AWESOME JOB
I just got a hilarious idea of writing a bushcraft story from my dog's point of view. thanks!
Wonderful pics. Enjoyed them a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Great pictures as usual! That looks like a nice trip.
I was surprised about the slugs. I have never seen them like that. The only ones I have seen are solid coloured in dark brown or total black. Cool pattern!

Great pictures! I saved a number of them to put in my scenic folder that I put on random while giving massages. Nothing relaxes me more than nature, so I have natural scenes playing in
My treatment room at all times.
those green "catapillars" are inch worms. at least thats what we call them down here. they inch up your sleeve. their backs raise, their back "feet" follow and repeat. yep inch worm.
did you keep the NEW YORK memorabilia?? it looks pretty neat
what? you didn't shoot the glass targets someone left you? what kinda fmj does that?
(yep its me, the same hayaku)
jv3 said:i would've if i owned any guns - they're evil!heh, i was wondering when i'd run across one of you guys here! i figured my avatar would serve as a hint...check out the esee forum too - you won't get banned over there for being an fmj, unlike here.
i doubt any of them motorheads would make it here...very few of them venture outside the garage much less the outdoors...
i need to make a trip out to nj to camp/hunt with you guys still. you still got your stash of boom sticks right?
btw.. 1 mile 308 aint no thang. now if only my knife goes that far...
That spool lookin' thing is a barbed wire spool, & the rainbow colored beetle is a tiger beetle. They're fun to watch especially if you get to see one eat.
thanks! i watched that beetle munch on something - didn't mind me at all watching up close!
Yeah, they're about blind. They can see movement, & make bullet-like runs to catch food, but can overshoot a meal. I enjoy fishin' for their larvae too. You take a long strand of grass & drop it down a little hole in your backyard. In a min or two, the grass'll start wigglin' around & you can just pull him out as he's chomped down on the grass.
