More great pics J, that is really a beautiful area you go to and nice you could share it with your cousin. Had to chuckle when I read your comment about sleeping with the machete and knife at your sides. I go through similar stuff when soloing. I guess being alone heightens your senses in terms of trying to prevent serious injury and keeping some means of defense within reach. I would have to have at least the netting over me to sleep well, you amaze me, but I guess spiders and creepy crawly critters don't bother you. I hate spiders, and the bites seem to take forever to heal. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Awesome pictures. It's great that you got to spend time with family. Thanks for sharing.
Where's the bacon !!!! ... your post suddenly made me feel hungry :friendly_wink:
That's what was passing between my two brain cells also............. interesting post, it's all good.

I hope your cousin continues to have a great vacation.

It's also called Ghost Pipe (Monotropa uniflora). It's not a mushroom, it's a plant without chlorophyll. It does however exist with mushrooms, it feeds on the mycelial mass below the soil, ie, fungi/mushroom networks. It's almost parasitic IIRC.
Fascinating plant, just saw some last week in my back woods.
