Well here is my two cents worth that generally gets to 2 bits...
If it is a Custom stamped blade you will have the COA for dating and records for at the time of being made.
{SO a custom needs no numbering}
But let me leave no mistaking of were I stand in my collections of customs
NO DATE MARKS ON MY CUSTOM BLADES PLEASE nuft said
Yes, I also would like info on how many of what type like the recent 100 year blade notice of two differing handle treatments.. on the same blade!
Limited production can have date stamps as it is jest a limited issue of normal blade knives or special handles also will suffice. But as a limited production handle or a scale or blade type well yes a limited needs numbering such as -one of 1000!!! Or serial numbering such as 123 / 0250 As applied to any not normal production including the special wood scales also
Custom shop like they had and have now - a simple ordering a custom combination of stock materials then a next in line serial number would be in order with coa.. as to SMK or BASS PRO ordering exclusive through them put together knives as above guides and NON -advertising motifs go then either of the 3 ways
I feel I should be able to send a wood blank to them to put in the jig and have select fancy woods on the scales with a nest in line serial number
There is newly imported wood from new Zealand that is 30,000 yr old..
Lovely and expensive as kola but very different... gota get me some
Kola is nice & I have none, but I have some burral maple that gets raves from every one.
On past used woods I like the black wood buck used for a while. Some of the color woods like purple heart, snake wood, holly and some of the other Fancy Woods .
Walnut works and NEW Red or white oak are also ok but again, not always my preference
I have and am willing to supply any one of the buck club doing handles as I have done with others including Scott and Joe some wood that dates from 1752 at the newest and as early as late 1600... old growth chestnut or a type of wood like a extent chestnut or an extent oak
it is very hard to id wood that is that old but I have it and will share with any that do re-handle work
it is NICE stuff
I also have a small bit of walnut of this age also. But finished it looks like new stuff so nothing gained there..addationaly i have some small amount of old growth long neddle pine heart wood i can let some go...
but again no date markes needed on a custom stamped blade ..peroid.
