Another PM2 thread...

I'm planning on getting a PM2 soon, and I've been looking at the various sprints/exclusives to see if there is a specific one I want to pursue more than the others. I work in facilities maintenance and this is going to be a work knife, although I've got an ambitious that will take any overly abusive tasks, I'd like to lean more towards toughness than pure abrasive edge retention...

But I know that realistically I probably won't notice a difference in normal use, so I'd appreciate some handle color comparison pics along with any thoughts people have on steel preference!
Especially curious abut the green and blue colors, it seems like the dark/brightness of the colors doesn't always come through in photos.

Thanks!

The standard black G10 is perfect for the tasks you have laid out. Any other colors and you might be thinking.....it's too pretty to use. Haha

S30V is hard to beat.

I know this post isn't much help in the cosmetic realm. But hopefully, it may help you realize, a cutter don't care what color it is. [emoji6]

S30 if perfect.
Scale colors usually indicate Sprint runs/different steels.

I don't have anywhere near as many as I wish, but here's what I have.

My suggestion, get a standard S30V, black or digicam as you prefer. See how much you like it after a while using it, then look for custom scales or Sprints/Exclusives if you feel the need.
The only options to buy new right now are the standard black or digicam (best value for sure IMO), or the Orange DLC XHP, OD green with Elmax, both of which are dealer exclusives and expensive, or the new Royal Blue S110V, which probably won't be in stock anywhere for a while.

I concur starting with the standard S30V model. The BLK/BLK S30V was my first PM2, it's also the one that led to the addiction I have now (and as you can see I've expanded). As far as a personal favorite steel I love S110V, but have had no problems with S30V. I love them all, so it's really hard to narrow down. Start simple and go from there. If you're wanting sprints/exclusives be prepared to drop some money. The CTS-XHP and S110V can be found in stock, just gotta know where to look. Good luck!

The black DLC S30V blades are good working blades for ~$120 (or ~$100 on the Exchange).

There's a black DLC CTS-XHP blade for $175 but I'm not sure if it's ~$75 better.

But there's also an M4 sprint coming around the end of the year that's definitely ~$30 better. ;)

i would also pick the standard black/S30V!it seems really plane, but i think its the best looking PM2.

I've been lucky enough to get my hands on several sprint runs, but in the end, I sold them all off and stuck with a plain Jane black/S30V model.

Im in the same boat as you, I didn't see your thread and asked a similar question myself. I was inbetween Elmax, S35vn, Cts-XHP and possible M390/CTS 204P.

I've made a trade for an s30v, black/satin pm2, just waiting on the mail now... Thanks for all the replies and the great pics!

That's the Elmax blade OD green dealer exclusive. Don't know if I can name the dealer here but google Elmax Paramilitary 2 and you will find it. Warning, it's over priced. But I'm an Elmax fan because of it's balance of edge holding and ease of sharpening, and that one I got is absolutely mint, solid lock up, blade swings freely when lock is pressed, perfectly centered.

I was afraid it was that one... Seems bbs gets mentioned all the time here though?

...you know, if you bought it for the blade, we cold swap handles ;)

Is that a stainless scale? It looks amazing, although I'm not sure I would want to carry something that polished at work.

Digi DLC S30V

S30V is a much better steel than people give it credit for... hold an edge, good toughness, sharpen easy. I even prefer it over M390 or 204P which in my experience its not very tough steel.

I'm awaiting an s110v para 2. Not sure how I'll like the blue scales, but I'll change them if they seem too bright. The Para 2 will be a great platform for S110V.

I have been using the S110v para 2 since it came out about a month or more and The edge is actually holding up better than the s30v when it comes to micro chipping/rolling. Now I'm guessing this has to do with the higher hardness and if you pushed them harder it may be another story but no micro chipping/rolls when cutting cardboard and zip ties unlike s30v on occasion. Now for harder use than that I don't know if S110v is gonna be better or not but so far im impressed. Now that Spyderco is using a hell of alot S110v now I'm sure we will learn a lot more about this steel.
