I'd spotted some fatwood a while back and decided to take my TOPS Tracker with me today to process a little~

So most people see pics like these and say " Yeah it's a half decent chopper but try some fine stuff !"

So just for those people:D~

I'v always thought that paticular knife looked kinda gimicky, aparently not.

My biggest complaint with the design is that the edge doesn't come as thin as you have it on yours! If they came like that from the factory it'd be like a whole different knife!

Very nice pics! I've only held, never used the Tracker, so I won't post + or - about it, but I will say that those curlies are nice & take some finesse to get that purdy!

I don't know anyone that has ever accused the TB Tracker of being "a good chopper", nor do I see any evidence of that in your pics. Those are some mighty fine curls you have there, and kudos on finding that ridiculously straight grained pine to practice on. But what do they have to do with "fat wood"?

I said a half decent chopper not a good chopper, if someone said you were half decent in bed but your mate was good in bed you wouldn't take that to be the same eh !!!

My thread title doesn't mention fatwood ? Chopping the fatwood was only one of my uses for the knife today.

No skill or finesse at all buddy, using the gut hook section makes them so easy that even my grandma could do it !

+1 I really love my tracker but it seems overly thick on the cutting edge

pitdog who thinned the bevel on your tracker? and if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost?

Hey buddy, have you tried the gut hook part for fuzzies, I'd be interested in how a standard grind works. My buddy has one as well and I keep threatening to compare mine with his.

Still rather have the Armageddon.. I own both and both are nice, but for pure utility and not novelty it's the Armageddon for me.

Fellow forumite Horndog gave me this as he hated it, he put the grind on before sending it.

I did try it for fuzzies and it's still a little thick. It really needs to be thinner IMO.

Just about all I have most of the time is 'ridiculously straight grained pine'-the occasional aspen or beech, and the cottonwood and locust around here is so messed up it's unusable. Of course it's not going to carve like a Skookum Bushtool, but the way he has that Tracker set up I'm sure it's a capable survival tool.

Jeff I wonder is I might be able to help you with thinning the edge down some and putting a razor edge on it. let me know what you think.
