Another post for the Tracker haters !

I've always wondered about the Tracker...I kinda like the looks but the price always turned me away. Yours looks nice PitDog, been awhile since youve had it out to play ?!

I actually use it quite a bit but obviously people assume that the knives we use the most are those that we post about the most......forums can be misleading !

If it came with that grind, I'd have bought one ages ago. Nice to see that 'horrible' tool getting used, though. (I've heard many times of it referred to as horrible)

Considering those beautiful scales and the quality of TOPS' 1095, I wouldn't call any of their tools horrible-one could take the time to modify it, as in this case, and turn it into an effective tool.

Nice pics there pitdog. I assume your knife was made in the Rowen era for TOPS. As such, it's undoubtedly well made and of good 1095.

But I've never been a fan of that design. It's just not for me. The Knatchet on the other hand seems to be a much better design! You should post up some comparison pics of the TB Tracker and the Knatchet getting some work done.

I had one years ago but never redid the edge and sold it off. I have a knatchet now and am pleased with it. The Tracker was a decent knife, just not terrific. I wonder if I would have taken the time to modify it if it would've been a better user. Thanks for sharing, Pitdog!

I always admired the Tracker. I first read about it in a Blade Magazine, then I saw it in the Hunted, but it was out of my price range. Glad to hear and see that it really works!

Here is some text and pics I posted when I first received my Knatchet~

When John first posted pics of it many people mentioned the Tom Brown Tracker knife as if I was trying to make an improved version of that. This was not the case at all, I was just trying to come up with a tool that I could use for camping and woods bummin that would be able to do more or less any tasks I required from it.
However as people were mentioning the Tracker I thought I'd post a couple of pics comparing the two as a size guide......

PC250011-1.jpg

The Tracker is 1/4" stock, the Knatchet 3/16".....

PC250012-1.jpg

The front section has a rounded spine so that it does not destroy battons if you need to batton with it......

PC250013-1.jpg

I am really impressed with the grind that John has put on this one, I told him that I wanted it convexed without a secondary bevel, check this out....

PC250017-1.jpg

Made the customary fuzz stick and it worked real well, can't wait to give it some more testing soon !

I don't know why but I've always wanted a Tracker. That Knatchet looks pretty damn nice though, and you can baton with it :D

  pitdog! That Knatchet looks great.

If it works for you it's not a gimmick I don't think anyone would have a problem with it except it was in some class B movie

I think it's a pretty cool knife. Fun to own and to use! Nice edge on that one! Thanks for showing some of its uses.

I don't know anyone that has ever accused the TB Tracker of being "a good chopper", nor do I see any evidence of that in your pics. Those are some mighty fine curls you have there, and kudos on finding that ridiculously straight grained pine to practice on.

Haters gonna Hate. LOL.

Well said. The first thing I noticed when I bought my first TOPS TBT was the handle. It was very comfortable. I noticed right away the edge geometry was terrible. I fixed that, and made a very serviceable knife out of it. For only having a 6 inch or so blade, its a great chopper, compared to other knives in its size range.

It was said earlier that the section below the belly is a gut hook??? Isn't that to use it as a draw knife? Seems pretty useful to me.
Stitch, is that a custom Tracker? I think with a better point and less belly it could evolve into a more appetizing knife for most folks.

It can be drawn, as I did making the fuzzies, to round off lengths of wood for making bows etc. The flat part of the blade closest to the handle is also designed to use as a draw knife.

For anyone interested the instructions are here~
