i have another question for the CT hikers...

I am looking for some state land/parks to try to pull together another CT get together towards the end of the summer, and am looking at chatfield hollow state park so far...sounds promising and it is pretty central.

so is that park any good for a gathering?

what is some good state land that is adviseable that is somewhat central and that a group of knife nuts wouldn't be bothered? campgrounds could be alright, but i want to keep cost as low as possible and i want to give the group as much freedom as possible too.

i was thinking for the gathering to be focused on shelters...we could do some debris huts and find natural shelters and things like that...

so any suggestions for places that would work well?

I am gonna jump right in and say that I would love to go for Private land...that would be the best scenario..IMO. Even if its not in CT, I will do what I can to find someplace to check out. I would invite Marty and the gang..and I wouldnt want his dogs to be an issue again. Gene

private land would be great, if we can find some that we can use.

dogs are what i was thinking of too...as far as i know there are no restrictions on dogs at all on state land.

i would certainly invite marty and the gang, it would be great to get everyone together again.

so with that in mind...
anyone have a few acres in CT that everyone can come and play on for a weekend? ;)

bump up...

noone has any suggestions?

state parks, private land would be great, even commercial camp grounds would be alright if they have a secluded area way out there and the price isn't too bad...

siguy,
I am thinking Fall, right before the really cold weather or snow hits..it makes alot of the lessons that much more fun...and it minimises bugs. I always prefered camping in the cold to the heat...that way the fire is your buddy. Gene

i go back to school sept 1, so i would hope to do it before then because otherwise it would be hard for me to get it together.

I would love to come to another CT gathering :). I'll keep an eye out for state parks with good regulations on dogs and see what else I can come up with.

If we were to have a ct outdoors get together would i be welcome because im sort of a noob and im a teenager so i dont know if i would be welcome to join you guys?

Pretty much anyone/everyone is welcome. The age/experience range was highly diverse at the recent gathering - everyone seemed to get along pretty well.

bob,
you are of course welcome, i am a teenager myself and wouldn't want to exclude any of my peers based on age or any other factor out of our control...

and the point of these gatherings is to learn from eachother, so noobs are always welcome. the new guys can teach the old folks some lessons too sometimes.

at the last gathering, after much debate folks 16 and 17 were allowed to come sans parent with a consent form and a medical release form in case of emergencies. i would suggest bringing along a parent or other interested family member though, as it can be a good experience for both of you...and it is good to have someone to hang with when you don't know anyone.
