There was a pre built park shelter on site and although none of us slept in it.. was where we put our gear to start off with as thunder storms where predicted, Here' a my buddy doug posing

decided to practice my skills a bit and pend the night in a debris shelter
Being a well used campsite most of the debris was used up, but I did the best I could with what I had.

It spat rain on and off through out the night. but I stayed warm and dry till about 3:00 am I used a wool blanket under me and had no bag so Iat that point I through my jacket over me and slept till about 6:00 am when the Tom;s started gobbling (that time of year)
We dis some foraging, and acaught a number of Crayfish and frogs.. but not enought to really chow on so we let them go at the conclusion of the hunt there where ton's of wintergreen around however.. and some of it was still ripe and tasty

Good fun all in all Thanks for looking

Good stuff John. I wish I could get out half as much as you do.

See you soon buddy.

Rr, thanks for the post. The pics are great. It looks like you had a great time. I like the debris shelter.

Looks like a fine time, spring woods is always nice as you can see so much more.
Great to see spring on its way,any birds migrating through
Snow hasnt left here yet

Very cool RR, that takes a lot of gumption to stay in a debris hut with impending rain when there is a cozy shelter right there and your poncho in your kit. Like the filson hat quite a bit!

If you made your smores with spam instead of chocolate you could have had spores...

Great post and pics, especially the spam on a log :D How are you liking the Mora, the one that replaced the Clipper?

It looks like you guys had a great time! Your shelter looks very well built. If the weather were colder, I'd recommend cutting down the size by about half and building up the bedding to 18" thick. At that point you'd pretty much slide into the shelter like a cocoon, but it'd all be insulation.

It's good to see your nutritional priorities were there, too. A few of us were once on the brink of survival with two dozen Krispy Kreme donuts. :)

Added: Your post has me looking at my calendar, looking for my next chance to camp out. Well done!

Looks like a good time. I recognized that BK9 on the spam photo. Nice blade indeed.

Nice post John, good looking shelter too. Man, your spring is sooo far behind ours

Thanks for the comments guys, Guyon, Loving the companion.. I still like the handle on the clipper better.. but the longer tang on the companion gives it a bit of strength... I can say this... I battoned and carved the snot out of modes tsized oak with it and it stil shaves with only minor stropping after heavy use.

ah, spam...i'm jealous. i'm planning on doing an overnighter next weekend (may 7th), let me know if you can make it. i'm trying to get a couple of my mountain bike buddies to get into survival stuff too.

I see you're from NYC. Is this somewhere in the Catskills or Adirondacks? Looks like a great time!
