how long did it take to build the debris shelter? did you consider stretching your poncho over the initial lattice work- little more rain/wind protection perhaps

too bad the area was stripped, a little more debris inside/outside and you probably would have been fine :)

It looked like a lot of fun, John. So...

Do you feel that you brought enough, too little or too much still?

Do you think that you could have went longer with what you had. If so, how many days(realistically) until you would have needed to pull the plug?

Did bringing so little mean you had to work harder, smarter, or less?

I'm jealous, bud.... I need to get out.

Interesting Questions Rick ...I Think the gear was just about right.. although I think i;'ll add a water bottle to the mix.
I did bring way to much clothes (on my back that is) I was expecting it to be colder so I had a wool shirt on and a Mil surplus field jacket with liner ... the next day the temps went up to 80 too Hot to wear them so i tied them to my blanket roll and it added allot unwanted bulk to it .
The area I was in is heavily camped and pretty picked clean of dead wood and debris... I had to scour allot of terrain to get even the most meger covering on that shelter.. If it was built properly and if I rationed the food i had, and supplemented a little here and there I;d say maybe 2 more nights..rain or shine..at seasonal temps.. However after that I'd have to go too far from the sight to get enough wood and debris to maintain the shelter and fire.. That I;d have to select a new location or pack it in... (also I miss my kids after one night)
I had went on this trip wanting to build a debris shelter \, and had my mind fixed on it.. However in reality it was not the best choice giving the p[articulars of the terrain, But it was fun..

Good stuff, John. I was debating on what to send you for the FlashFreebie you won... based on the kit you brought out this time, I now know.
