Nothing special but this morning this was a old Old Hickory 8 inch slice with a broken tip. It is one we use in the garden. I thought I would make sort of a Bush Craft knife out of it. It's Carbon steel. I cut it to 3 3/4 inch blade and plan to just refinish the handle. It was a bit rusty but cleaned up pretty good. I am going to send it to Siguy for a good Convex edge. I left the tip a little thick and it drills really well. Sort of a modified clip point, almost a warcliff.

Not bad at all. I've got a bunch of old knives like that I'd love to play around with. Maybe I'll have to try my hand at cutting it down to size.

Nice work.

I just used the Dremel and kept a spray bottle of water there to cool it. I make sure that I can touch the blade any time during the cutting. I will get a picture when I get this one all done. I bought a bucket full of old knives at a farm sale a while back. There was about 20 knives in the bucket for $4.00.

Nice..Makes me want to find something to do with this one. Maybe once I find a duplicate because it is pretty handy in the woods.

nice job. i would love to sharpen that up. i still haven't had the chance to work on an old hickory...

i was going to buy a paring knife this summer but when i went back to the awesome hardware store that they had them at last year i was told they no longer carried them. bummer...but it just means i get to wait and buy a whole set at once instead!

siguy, I am gathering up a few more to send you. Probably send them tomorrow:thumbup:

Great job !

Old carbon steel knives are the great undiscovered asset of the home cobbler. :)

This is/was a Forgecraft butcher knife. I love it.

Great pic Kismet!

I saw a huge buck today on the interstate somebody hit. Bummed me out cause he was a trophy.

Can't take a pic of it right now (back in Iraq again....but for the last time!), but I cut down an 8" Case butcher knife just before leaving home. It now sports a drop-point blade just under 5"...a REAL "user" for the woods and fields!
