So, my question is: how does everyone carry the larger locking blade models? What are the pros and cons of pocket vs. sheath/belt carry? What kinds of sheaths? Factory or Kydex? Who else makes them? Any help would be appreciated. Dave

I carry my large Locksmith model SAK (4 springs thick, 4-3/8" long when closed) in my right back pocket next to my wallet. The wallet keeps it vertical and pressed to the rigth side of the pocket so that I'm not sitting on it. This avoids pocket bulge and makes the knife accessible even when I'm sitting down.

I would go with a sheat. You can find a lot of sheats with Swiss cross or use any other convenient sheats. Take a look for example at http://eknifeworks.com/webapp/eCommerce/index.html
For urban carry in not too hot/humid enviroment the leather sheat is very nice. For outdoors the nylon/plastic sheats are more practical. Kydex may scratch even the roughened nylon scales on the locking SAKs, so if this is a concern, avoid it. If this is a minor concern, you may wish to order a custom Kydex sheat from Normark.

Normark (On-Scene Tactical) makes a nice neck sheath, at least for the Rucksack. It snaps in securly and can be comfortable with a decent neck strap.

Normarks neck sheath is neat and convenient!

Thanks to all for the advice. I think I'll have to buy one of the larger SAK's and experiment on my own, but at least now I have a place to start. Dave

I have a heavy-duty ballistic nylon sheath that I use to carry large knives in my backpocket. I made it by modifying an ammo clip holder, so it has two pockets. I just cut off the flap. I find I can carry two large knives in my backpocket fairly easily using this sheath. Typically, though, I only carry one there, along with a comb. Here's a pic. It's really the handiest sheath I own.

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

Excellent idea Hoodoo.
I usually stuff a bandana in my back pocket to keep my Swiss Tool to the outside of the pocket but then it slides around when I use my bandana.
