Well, sold knife number 6 arrived at its new owners mailbox and he is very happy as were the previous 5 people. So why am I still worrying every time I send one out? Does this ever get any better? lol:eek::D

It does get a little better but does not go away. After sending many hundreds of knives out, I still worry. :)

It's normal. I've sold about 40 and still feel the same way. I think it's because you have pride in your work and craft. I think it is a good thing.

My wife is always telling my not to be so worried when I'm showing/sending a custom piece to a customer, and I have been doing custom jewelry for over 20 years, and selling the occaisional knife for almost that long. There is always something I see that I could have done better, or I am worried that the customer was expecting better than I am capable of making, or a thousand other uncertainties that keep me awake, especially since noone seems to do a followup email when they get something anymore. After a year or three of being worried that the work sucked, and that they weren't talking to me because of the discomfort . . . I run into them, or their buddy orders something, or whatever, and I find out that they loved it.
About the only time I hear from my customers to follow up a sale is if they need matching earrings (fortunately I do get those emails with increasing frequency)
The day I become insecure about my work is the day it will stop improving, much as the anxiety eats me up, not caring about my work would make the whole thing just another pointless day-job, and I already have one of those that supports my art.

I was puzzled when I saw how nervous Matt Roberts was the night before the JS judging at Blade. After all, he and Nick Wheeler and Don Hanson and all of the the other JS and MS candidates who I had met were doing spectacular work. Guess I understand now.....kinda....lol.

Yes, Don.....I remember you telling me about the "scratch" on that red mammoth bowie.........not that i was ever able to actually discern it...lol:p

It dosen't go away, You
just get used to it. It's
just part of caring.

I agree with Page,If we ever stop worring then we will quit improving.

I start worrying that the customer wont like it as soon as I start it...I always as for a confermation email that they recieved the package, then they usually let you know if they like it or not.And I hope I never do quit worrying.

I worry on each one that he will want his money back. It has only happened once and it was because of poor engraving not my work.

I get nervous about every knife I deliver, and then even after the customer says that they really like it after seeing it, then I wonder how they feel it performs in use, can't wait to either see, or hear from them to find out, so far all reports have been good, but I still worry that someone won't like it.

So, is that like "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" or more like "Shine on, you crazy diamond"? :D
