ok i just failed at my second atemp to a slipjoint. the contact point on the blade and the back spring are ending up way to far apart. i can make lock backs with little problems here:jerkit: i think its because i use a nickel to trace around on my lockbacks and freehand the slip joints. the atempted slip joints are smaller than what im used to making. should i try a dime or what??

Can you post a picture of what you are talking about so I can see exactly. Then maybe I can help . If all else fails Pm me or email me and I can give you a phone
call . Goodluck !

You must draw or make a pattern. I draw the entire knife in the open position and make two copies. I estimate where the pivot point should be and cut out the blade on one of the copies. Then put the pin thru both blade pattern and knife pattern. Pivot the blade on the pin and change the pivot point until you have a good match in both the open and closed position. You may have to make a few other adjustments also such as the kick, runup, etc. After you do it for a few knifves it becomes very easy. Good luck and make a pattern!

Dimes and nickels are probably could be the problem if the size of your blade doesn't match. :)

One thing that might help is to get yourself an inexpensive slip joint and take that sucker apart to see how it works. Lay the spring and blade out on a plain ole piece of pine(in their correct positions) and put nails in the pivot and back(not the middle) spring hole. Now you can rotate the blade to see how it operates on the spring.

Hey, read my little sign down there :)
