Another socketed spear

Watched LOTR, really dug some of the spears and stuff and since I have been on a spear kick lately I put this one together today. 5160, same as the other, and I took a picture of the 1st 2nd and 3rd spears I have ever made (these latest ones). I punched then drifted the holes. I also snapped some shots of the tool I used to neck in the stock, and the side fuller I use to spread the socket.

no I don't weld them, 5160 has been tricky for me to weld, maybe if I made them out of some 1075 or such something a little friendlier to forge welding, I need to make up a bick iron to back up the inside and i'll try welding one up.
 
You need to sharpen one up, put it on a sapling, and go have fun with some of the +8 million pigs we are having issues with down here in Tx.
 
Got those holes punched for a crossbar for just such a thing, I hear boar/pigs will run right up the spear and gore you even though it's through them :D. Sounds like fun!
 
Sam there was somebody that was raising European wild boar in Bethel .They got loose and then disappeared . I was told there are people in the area that have pork in their freezers !! To hunt them you need about 6 well trained dogs and a spear .TX has 2 million feral pigs.
 
Nice work Sam! The d.e.c has hogs listed in the magazine this year,no season,no bag limit!! (eradicate)
 
Hmm, NY state's first hog hunt in maybe a couple hundred years maybe EVER? That would be very cool, I am not a hunter really but could do that once, and have a big pig roast after. If I was a rich guy I would hire and fly that fella up here that makes the boar knives then takes people on the hunts.

Washington DC has about the same number but they don't like to talk about that! :)
