I just got my new Calypso Jnr. last night. This is to replace the Meerkat as the inhabitant of my front jeans pocket on weekends.

Sharpest knife out of the box I've come across I think. I haven't had the chance to use it yet although I did open some envelopes and packages I had. Slices through paper, light cardboard and baling twine with the greatest of ease.

The blade opens smoothly and easily and the lock engages with a nice solid snap, very reassuring. At first glance the handle seems a bit lightweight and maybe even a little cheap but it certainly seems strong enough and the patten is very grippy. I don't have especially large hands and this knife suits me well with a balanced feel.

It has a good, solid clip which can be moved to the other side for lefties like me.

I think I'm going to like this knife a lot and it's a great replacement for the Meerkat. About the only thing I'd change is the clip. A slight redesign would let the knife sit deeper in the pocket which would be my preference. If you like the knife to poke out of the pocket a little then it's perfectly OK.

The Caly seems to be a big hit on the forums. I have one myself and my buddy has one too, we both love the knife. I like the clip, a little lower ride would be nice, but it still rides really low compared to many other knives out there. The silvery grey clip with the black bug is a lovely touch!

Good choice. No !! - Great choice in replacement for the Meerkat. This is one knife that will grow on you the more you use it. A real knockabout EDC that will serve you well.

My Calypso Jr came in the mail this morning. Agreed, out of the box this is one sharp knife.

As for EDC it is in a fight with my SERE2000. I got the Caly because the SERE "frightens" sheeple  . ( and I didn't get the all black SERE because I thought it would be too scary for many). Anyway I saw the Calypso Jr and thought it would be less scary plus it's a lot lighter for those times when less is better.

But so far I kinda miss the weight of the AlMar in my pocket and it opens so smoothly............this is gonna be tough. I think that around work I'm going to carry the Caly and save the AlMar for those times when a heavy knife which is fairly fast to deploy is reassuring.

However, I did resist a huge temptation in pistol buying yesterday so I haven't done too bad for the week, just one new knife.
