This is a very nice 'box' kothimora that is 12.5" o/a. I think it was made around 1920 for a hunting club in Assam. Great workmanship, but no karda or chakmak.

The "box" has an enclosed design of metal or wood carved into the scabbard that has slots for the kukri and k&c. Sometimes there will be a sliding wooden panel that would hold stuff like a pouch would. The regular kukri ( a "regimental in the closeup) has the typical seperate sheaths for the k&c attached to the main scabbard and the pouch attached on the back.

Can't look at this little knife and not be drawn in by the magnificent craftsmanship, the cho alone must have taken several hours to sculpt. Thanks for sharing John, this one put a big old smile on my face.

First time I saw it you had forgotten the ".net" in the image address.

And with your description does that mean the HI Royal Dhankuta Kothimoda and the HI Kothimoda are both "box" Kothimodas?

You forgot .jpg on the end of the file name John

Edited to add the second picture you tried to post while I was posting first one

That is why I have the schmoo as my avatar....makes a lot more sense than the nice little badge from the "Kali Dal" battalion of the old Nepalese Army.

Only us guys over 50 will probably recognize the schmoo. One of Al Capp's greatest characters from L'il Abner.
