Took a turn around the Antique mall yesterday to see what was new. This is the best looking (condition-wise) forge complete with blower I have seen there. Of course the price was in the stratosphere also!
They had a PW anvil in good shape, looked to be around 130-150 lbs for more than $5.00/ lb. Around here, buying new makes more sense!
On another note, many years ago there was a junk yard nearby and the owner collected anvils. It was whispered about that he had a large building full of them, but would never sell. I thought it unlikely that someone had a building full of anvils, figured he might have a couple dozen, maybe. I was talking to a cousin last week who worked as a part-time farrier for years and we started talking about anvils. He starts talking about a customer from years ago who had a building full of anvils, and I say they guy's name. His face lights up and he asks if I saw them and I told him no, and I figured it was just an urban legend. He says, no, that was no legend, his customer let him walk through a 100'x300' steel building that must have had hundreds of anvils all lined up in rows and told him to pick one. Says he picked a HB that looked brand new. My cousin says he asked a relative years later what happened to all the anvils after the guy died and was told that the doors were padlocked and chained after the guy died. Don't know if they are still there or not, fun to think about though.
