Another True Survival Story

nodh, not here. The larger tractors have cabins but smaller or older ones are just have a seat and wheel like lawn tractors. The old gent has probably had that tractor 40+ years and cabs were few and far between on the medium size machines back then IIRC. I know a lot of farmers (if not most that I know) have an old smaller tractor and most of them don't have cabs.

No man that's not cool, this article really worried me so I have been sitting here all morning thinking about what I need to carry in my PSRTROK (Personal Self Recovery Tractor Roll Over Kit) I am not sure of everything I am going to carry in it but some sort of big honkin knife is at the top of the list. Chris

If you are going to carry a proper PSRTROK it would consist of a small explosives charge that when initiated would blow the tractor off of you and back onto its wheels. :D

I would say the perfect PSRTROK would be a SAK and a Cell Phone. Why a SAK? Because you couldn't call it it kit if you just said "take your cell phone". Maybe throw in a few snares and some hooks. Mac

Get one for everyone you care about. Kids die every year when they get lost, then become weak and can't call for help while there are people nearby looking for them.

Loudest whistles on the planet ;)

Be sure the kids have the lung capacity to blow it as even small adults have issues with the full sized storm. Not sure about the wind storm though. Kids have no problem with the fox 40 this I know.

When we lived on the farm there were a lot of old timers with hands and arms missing, All the result of thresher accidents. Also, every few years we would hear about one of these old farmers being pinned under a tractor. The still were driving the old open type.

Hrmms I know of a device here in Australia that when a tractor rolls over it dials our emergency line or another phone number of your choosing and plays a message.

Well, over here the two types of accidents are the one where a farmer is pulling trees and the wire snaps and hits someone. If the wire dont snap sometimes the tractor falls over backwards and squashes someone. Last year one guy got about half of his teeth knocked out from a flying pulley.
The other common accident is the classic snow blower one. Snow is blocked in the inlet and the farmer puts hits soon to be ex foot in the hole to kick some snow.

A whistle is a good thing to have tractor or not. A knife is a good to have thing too.
So if you are using heavy machinery, a knife like a KaBar Warthog is the thing. A Fallkniven F1, Strider something or any other 3-4" knife that is strong enough to dig with but not too bulky to carry around is great.
I can see a new line of tools emerging. Something like the Strider BD with a John Deere logo on it and green all over. A PSRTROK for every tractor brand, for different climates and so on. "Show that you care for your farmer friends, get them a PSRTROK today" Now with free engraving. Order now and get it before the harvest festival.

I hope that farm guy framed his knife and bought himself a whistle and a bigger knife.
