Here we go again:D I am sure that other newbies have found cutting the hole for hidden tangs to be somewhat time consuming and frustrating at times. I started off using a cut down rasp and eventually bought a cheaper handle broach which never really did the trick. I finally broke down and orderd two handle broaches from John Perry, MS. The are VERY pricey, beatifully finished and I think they are made out of D2. It took a while to get them as John is normally quite busy making gorgeous knives. They arrived a little while back and I just used them for the first time today. My reaction? If you don't already own some, you should all immediately swamp John with orders for these little gems. I just cut a perfect hole in a piece of amboyna burl in about 5 minutes, including drilling the pilot hole and cleaning up with a little rasp. John's 1/8 inch model fits perfectly into a 3/16 pilot hole without the need to enlarge the hole with a rasp and pack the end of the hole with compressed sawdust. That means you don't have to go in with the drill to clean out the sawdust and you can drill the hole and make the tang so that it comes very close to the end of the handle without having that little extra bit of void. I am duly imprssed with these little tools and should have bought them when I first saw them 2 years ago.

sorry, guys..........I'm on my way to London so no pics:D

alright anything to make it easier is worth twice what he's asking but I really haven't had that much trouble I just drill a pilot hole and take a dremil with a routing bit to the rest doesn't take long works just fine or at least I thought

The ABS web site lists a John Perry, MS in Arkansas, I don’t see a web site for him, but it does list a phone number, 501-470-3043.
