Last night I heated a piece with a torch past non-magnetic, let it cool to black, heated to past non-magnetic, let cool to black, heated to past non-magnetic, let cool to black. Then heated to past non-magnetic and quenched in Parks 50.
The RC reading was 65, and when I broke the piece the grain was very very fine.
It is interesting that when I took a class in Damascus Steel back in 1991 under Master Smith Charles Ochs, that was how he heat treated his blades.
I invite others to try this and post your results.
