burned off another hike today, the weather was a combo of snow, sleet, hail, rain, and wind.
Hit the woods, the rain was pouring down.
Gorillas In The Mist, eeeerrrrr........Trees In The Mist:
As i was trotting thru the trail and up a very steep hill, i suddenly looked up and 1 foot from my face was three BIG german sheperds, They all seemed happy and waggy tails. I patted them and then spotted the dog walker. Said hi and carried on. Got to where i was going and dropped the pack, set up the tripod and camera, bagged the camera with a zip lock bag and pulled out the GB small forest ax.
I apologize for the crappy pics, i had my camera set on small frame size and only 3 megapixel. These pictures suck.
Quickly de-limbed a fallen tree, 2-3 chops per limb, and pulled the limbs over to a big fallen tree. Set up a ridgepole and laid the rest of the limbs on the pole.
gathered some green boughs from another fallen tree and piled them on.
left a note on Rite In The Rain paper, explaining what the shelter was, its construction etc. Might be of some interest in the summer when the kids hike thru and find it. The shelter was big enough for one person to curl in. I could have enclosed the area under the big log and maybe part of the open side, but in this area i like a speedy exit from a shelter. We got cougars and bears and they are not afraid of humans.
