Ok, so I'm 16 woo... I "collect knives" which has typically meant I bought cheapos that I likes, not that were useful (except for a CRKT badger several years ago and a SOG flash II last year). I was just hired by my neighborhood for $475 give or take $10... I'm looking I spend at most $200 of that to get one or two nice knives to use (I'm not much for just looks... I beat on my cool looking cheapos lol) I'm not a huge fan of manuals, and in my state anything with a blade of <5" is legal no matter deployment type. I don't really know what I want because I've never payed any attention to knives over ~$50 as I couldn't afford them... Any thoughts/ideas would be great thanks!

If you don't like manuals. Try picking up an L-UDT or TR3. Hard workers with no nonsense designs.

I'm not fully opposed to manuals, just the ones I've used have been rough on the action...

Buck 110 (large hands) or 112 (smaller hands) made in USA, 30-40$

Buck 110 is a classic... A couple great buck options available in the $100 range, including the "open season" series with s30v blades, I actually have two of them ordered myself right now; or also the vantage pro with the same is a bit cheaper even, (if you're looking for a premium steel at a bargain price).

I'm a firm believer that Kershaw is one of the best "bang for your buck" brands out there, with a bunch of different designs, quality made, many for under and up to $100, I also have 2 new blurs orders in s30v and in Elmax, both were in the $80-100 range, and even the svandik blades are crazy razor sharp...

have fun shopping around though. Let us know what you got.

And if you want just one high(er) end knife, now your whole world opens up to a bunch of different designs from nearly every top maker; benhmades, spyderco's, viper (the "start" is pretty sick) made of n690co, fox pro hunter, cold steel code 4's comes in your choice of clip, drop, or tango blade; cts-xhp steel, should run ya right around $150 or so... If I were you, as a (young) "collector" with a $200 budget, is go buy one nice primo $150+ blade to be the king/centerpiece of your collection, and then if there's still any $ left over, buy another decent budget blade like a $20 Buck Bantam with a slick handle design, or another CRKT. But that's just me.

Based on your initial question I think you should start looking at Zero Tolerance knives. Lots to offer and they like to be beaten on!

Bro get a spyderco. Only problem is you'll won't be able to stop buying them once you start!

Maybe the new Lion Steel? The t.r.e. is 200 bucks, great steel, titanium framelock, steel insert. It is manual but has ball bearings and a flipper...
Hogue knives has some auto knives that look really strong! ;)

If you don't have a Spyderco yet, get a Delica. Kershaw Leek is pretty decent too if you want a solid flipper with assisted opening. Kershaw Lahar is a good option too if you can find one. Those are all fairly affordable so you may be able to get a Lahar, a Delica, and a couple of Opinels for $200.

Spyderco Delica is a great choice, A ZT won't let you down either. Maybe check out the Benchmade rift or griptilian too,

Or if you're into that whole outdoors thing and would like a fixed blade, get a Mora Bushcraft. Sturdy as hell, cheap, not too difficult to maintain, and relatively easy to sharpen.

If you don't have a Spyderco yet, get a Delica.

Nailed it. Its a beloved classic for a reason.

And get a Vic SAK, too. And you could probably throw in a Mora too, like Maxim mentioned.

Really, if you have not owned those three knives...you do not "collect" or "use" knives. You just buy knives that you think are cool looking.

<$100 beater knives (if you want to get two):
HK 14715
Benchmade Griptilian
Spyderco Manix 2
Most Seki City Spydies

Will also recommend a ZT 0566 which starts around $150.

Happy Hunting!

I am immensely happy with my Zero Tolerance 0556BW which would be in your price range. Smooth action, assisted opening flipper, Elmax blade, solid in my hand. If you can get to a place where you can handle some decent knives (spyderco, ZT, Etc) as opposed to just online, that will help.

Get a Benchmade 940 and stick the rest of the money in the bank. You're gonna need cash for gas and insurance soon!

Spyderco Manix 2 LW S110V or Para-military.
Mora of some sort
Swiss army knife or leatherman multi-tool.

If you want to spend more and just get a folder, the aforementioned Spyderco Gayle Bradley is great. Zero Tolerance 0900 and 0801 are phenomenal as well, flip well but are at the upper end of your price limit.

I also suggest getting a Spyderco Sharpmaker and learning how to sharpen your knives.
