Okay, I have posted a couple of times that want to get a heavy-duty utility/EDC folder, and I've listed which ones I have considered...I changed my mind again, and would like your opinions on these three I am considering:
Zero Tolerance 300 model, Strider SmF, or a Sebenza Large Regular. I like the features of the ZT, the "built like a tank" SMF, and the understated but solid Sebenza...and know I can't buy all three! So, opinions?

Just to add to your dilemma check out the Ontario Knives Retribution 1 or 2. They were designed by Jerry Hossom and although they are liner locks the liners are as thick as a lot of frame locks.

I've handled all three and bought the ZT 302, but that was mostly because I really like the recurve blade. The other main selling point was the no slip grip thanks to the flipper acting as a hilt.

The cheaper ZT 200 is practically as good as the 300 series. I haven't gotten any of them yet, though. My Strider and Reeve folders hold up just fine.

You really don't need to spend that kind of money for ultra durable knives. The Manix, the Buck Strider 880, Extrema Ratio, will all match the ones you mentioned.

I pretty much stopped buying folders all together when I got my first CRK Sebenza. I've sold and traded most of my others and have only bought one folder other than the sebenza and that was a Matt Cucchiarra frame lock folder which is basically on par with the CRK's, just more nicely finished.

If you want a super tacti-cool knife, the zt3, if you want something more polite, the sebenza.

I agree on the ZT2...it's a far superior deal to the ZT3, actually...some days I think I'd prefer it to the ZT3 (but not every day).

1) CRK Large Sebenza
2) any other one you may consider::thumbup:
3) honorable mention - Spyderco Manix (large) and Military (BF-42/CF)

I forgot to mention the Benchmade 710D2. That's my other favorite carry next to the Sebenza, I slip a Griptillian in the rotation when I'm feeling extra utilitarian too ;) You can't go wrong with ANY knife though as long as it appeals to you......everyone has different tastes. You don't have to spend big to get a great knife. There are SOOO many to choose from!

My first Sebby was a Lg. Reg. I just recieved a Lg. Classic Bocote and that is now my favorite. You could also check out a Hinderer for arounf the $400 range which is a fantastic knife.

Thanks for all of your opinions...can anyone post a pic of their Sebenza, Strider, or ZT? (a pic of your actual knife, not from the website) Does the Sebenza have some heft to it? I imagine the Strider and ZT have some weight to them, but does the Seneza feel substantial?

Zt 0301 is pretty heavy, not as heavy as an SMF though. For the price I would probably get the ZT! Its about 150$ cheaper than the Strider (my second choice) But i guess it really depends on what you will do with the knife ;)

Tanto SnG
Large tanto Sebenza
Large regular Sebenza

They all weigh within an ounce of each other.

Just to throw another one into the mix check out the Emerson CQC 7 - HD.

Doesn't get mentioned a lot in these threads but is right up there with the Striders and Sebenzas IMO.

I'd say go with the large Sebenza. Like you said, understated but well built and slim enough for easy pocket carry!

A large Sebenza would be hard to beat! I would go for the large Classic w/micarta inlays.

Do you Sebenza owners think the Large could be used as a decent utility knife? (cutting thick boxes, pieces of wood, heavy-duty canvas, thick rope, etc...) Now that I have been doing some more research, it sounds like I could use the Sebenza clipped in the pocket as an EDC and possibly a Strider MFS in a kydex sheath (worn horizontal on lower back) for larger jobs/self-defense.

That is a definite affirmative and I would the Benchmade Skirmish in there as well.

For the choices you gave I would stick with the ZT.

-I hate Striders (Zero Bang for the Buck)

-Sebenzas never fit my hand they seem thin, slick and when working they have a tendency to feel I don't know how to put it, I guse unsubstantial comes to mind.

Sebenzas. "unsubstantial"? Wow.

Solidest knife on the market. ALL metal. Precision fit & finish.

Hey Esav...I see you're from Jersey as well...is there anywhere around here that I can handle a Strider or Sebenza before I make my decision? (I live in Monmouth County) Thanks.
