Another work trip ....

Love seeing pics of a far away land.

I would love to come visit.

I don't think I could ever live there, though. I could not part with all my guns.

while the gun laws here arer certainly very different to the US, let us be clear that the "all guns are illegal in Australia" belief is very much WRONG. The contents of my couple of safes are testament to that.... ;)

Just got told i am on this trip for at least another week.....it is all well and good but i do start to miss the Mrs, my own bed and the two pups...... :(

Well I bet there are Gigilo's who have sore body parts too ...:D

Driving round NSW in a car that is fun to use and having the odd beer after work with no "come back" from the missus ... and you expect "sympathy" ? :D

Let me know if they are recruiting is all I can say !

Tough life....as I was only suppose to be away for four or so days at the start I packed just for this.... so now I have been wearing my undies inside out for a couple of days.... I had a bit of a complain about it today and got moved into a Villa with a washing machine and dryer.... (it also has a full sized spa and deck/garden/atrium as well....but the washer dryer was the only reason I asked for the move....honest.....truly..... ;)

Yesterday however was 18 hours long starting at 0430, my dinner last night was several rum and cokes before I could hear the (King size) bed calling my name...!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a hard life ...

:D

Wait till the "Villa" lifestyle starts to feel normal ... then you won't want to come home ...

I once had a training job in South America where we got put up in a Villa with "air con" ... absolutely "fantastic" benefit in that part of the world ... the recruits were in "tent city" :D ... about half a mile away ... we had an armoured Nissan Patrol with the heavy glass so it too had "air con" ... and it worked ! We felt so guilty turning up in the morning not smelling and not sweating that we would do shuttle runs on the croquet lawn before getting in the car just to develop a "sweat" before turning up ... :D

Ofcourse the pool after work was a great way to wind down and top off the tan ... till the local OIC said that the previous occupier had been found face down in it with a few extra holes in him ... and he was'nt sure if it had been cleaned since :D ...

That is what the chlorine is for in the water mate. On that last trip I stayed in a room that I am SURE had been occupied by a body very recently. Once the overpowering ari freshener wore off THAT smell was still there.....only one night at least. I had to talk to the Bush Turkey that seems to think the deck is his territory.... I walked out earlier and he just stood looking at me with that "what the f%&k are you doing" look on his face. When I get the pit built out under the palm trees and a nice bed of coals happening he may wake up to me....till then..... ;)

Andy, those buggers do look like they'd be good eating...
Travel safe and take more of your awesome pics mate.

You Aussie's are always good at the outdoor cooking  A nice Maori oven barby ... and great tasting Turkey in no time ... :D

You can always use your Busse to carve the Boomarang to nail it with ... :D Although some may say that is what .40 Glocks are for ... lol ... I can just see you running round the deck with a cushion on the mussle trying to get close enough to pop it ... unless ofcourse there are no near neighbours ...

THAT smell is always recognisable ... hard to pin down for those who have never smelt it before ... a bit like the smell of an old ash tray ... anyway ... gallows humour always gets you through ... we used to tell all the new lads to pack some proper curry spices in 35mm film cannisters for their webbing ... some would say they did'nt like curry ... when we told them it was one of the few things that would take away THAT smell ... the look on their faces was priceless :D

Very nice images. Enjoy that place, looks sweet in the photos. Most all my travel is stateside, I'll venture out as life provides the opportunities.

Till then, I do appreciate the scenery photos you (and others here) choose to share.

I caught one of the Maori guys on my team feeding one of these up today, I think that equates to "fattening" but i am not sure......if THIS bugger keeps annoying my he may well end up down on the beach with me tomorrow night (along with a nice bed of hot coals)....

Peter....yes...."muffeled pop" indeed..... ;)

So how do you cook them down there ? Roll them in wet soil/clay and let it harden whilst it cooks to make pulling the feathers off easy ? Or are you going to the trouble of plucking it ? I tend to prefer "easy" ... but if you just pluck the chest and cut out the brest meat you probably have the best of the bird by doing that ... then you can add the spices and flavours ... :) Turkey is a bit bland otherwise ...

Can you split the kelp and cook the meat in the same fashion as fish ? We had a kiwi with us back in the 80's who was great at beach barby's ... showed us this idea of parcelling the lobster in the kelp and cooking it ... absolutely fantastic

I would actually "skin it" a little quicker than plucking but you do loose the flavoursome outer. Once cleaned I would either spit roast it or get some raging hot coals going an make a small platform of rocks (salt water washed) in the coals and cook the bird laying on them. I could also foil wrap it and lay it down in the coals....oh the options are endless... ;)

Not sure that rum and sharp knives mix but it has been a really long day (week !!!)... but there are only so many laps of my spa that I can do before looking like a prune....

There you go! A turkey butchering knife!
They're quite annoying, and curious shouldn't be too hard to get one :D
