In various threads recently the topic of schrade+ steel has come up. I talked to some of the engineers and they said that any knives that are listed as "400 series" start off as 420HC. (cablelock, nitro's, simons, etc.) Good stuff, holds an edge well.

Thanks for the answer, Steve. This question comes up all over BladeForums and at other knife forums as well.

Thanks for the answer. By the way I am tickled with my recently aquired 96TRT. I like this one alot!

Hello Mr. Schrade the TRT96 was a Schrade Tennessee River Trapper with S/S blades that a bunch of lucky people(and a few lucky ones from here) picked up on clearance at Wally World.
It has nice peachseed jigged chestnut bone handles and was nicely finish with good walk and talk!
Nice trapper its to bad that it was delisted by Wally.
I got mine!
