Answer!

Deputy Tom,

I've done my homework while deciding on whether to get a Sebenza, and there are two Large Sebenza styles as far as I can tell. The "Plain" or "Regular" model and the "Classic 2000" model. Knifeart.com has a great picture of the two together. The Classic 2000 has the profile of the "original" Sebenza that many liked better than the profile adopted a few years back. The Classic 2000 IMO looks a wee bit more aggressive, and the regular looks slightly more utilitarian. Short swedge in the regular, longer in the Classic 2000. Also check out the handle profile. I like the thumblug indent a little more on the regular, but that's just me.

Here's the link to the knifeart.com pic:

Hope that helps,

P.S.: Thanks everyone for the heads-up on my anticipated initial reaction. I'll let you know when it arrives. Whoopie!:D

I got my large Sebenza three years ago now. Was great for EDC except when in city clothes where it was a little too heavy. Carried a number of other knives while in those duds, and then, about a year and a half ago got the small Seb. Now the small goes to the city and the large everywhere else. Don't have much to do with the other small knives any more, though they used to be my traveling (airline) knives, but can't do that any more either!

The only knife I'll grab in preference to one of my Sebenzas is a fixed blade, and now I've got too many of them too!

alelser, thanks for the site and explaination.I have to agree with you on the regular having better looks and probably a better feel due to the drastic cut out on the classic2000 handle. Some day when I've got enough "extra " cash I'll be purchasing a large regular too.tom.

Exquisite.

This is about as close to the perfect folder as I have ever seen. Every minor flaw or annoyance I have ever had on any other folder has been addressed and corrected in the Sebenza. Zero blade play -- open or closed. Locks up tight as a drum. Silky smooth; lightweight but not flimsey; beautiful without being over the top (The Grey WHAT? I think not.)

I can barely keep my hands off this thing. It has also come with the absolute sharpest blade I have ever encountered -- and that tumbled finish -- striking!

I swear this thread has taken be 10 minutes to write -- I keep taking my hands off the keys for some reason...

The ONLY problem with this knife: now I'll have to start saving for a small Regular Sebenza with a dual thumblug for my left front pocket...

Chris Reeve et al: I love you folks. ;)
