Ant bites

I always carry a tube of After Bite and Anthisan Bite & Sting Cream in my day pack, though I've never checked to see if they treat ant bites.

Hey guys. As a current pest control tech. I can vouch for how bad fire ants hurt. However. I have noticed that when I do get stung if you take something like tylenol that is good for swelling it helps. I know this isnt a cure all. The best way to avoid fire ant bites is to locate them and move far away. Maybe another county. Joke.
In North Carolina where I work the only large Black ants I have found are Carpenter ants. I havent found out if they sting/bite yet. I am loath to doing a test. Maybe if I can get a volunteer.....

2 tricks.
Take some ammonia and wipe it on the bite as soon as possible.
If you have some baking soda you can make a "dough" and plaster on the area to draw out the poison. This works for most any insect bite.

That sounds worth a try.

I carry alcohol pads and found that wiping down mosquito bites knocks down the itching and swelling a lot, but I don't think they would help with ant bites.

Ammonia sure does instantly takes the sting out getting brushed by a jelly fish...

Unless your carpenter ants are different from ours, you don't have anything to worry about. I suppose they'll bite if you really work at getting them to bite you, but we have them all over here and I've never been bitten.

From the wikipedia article on Carpenter ants: "The black carpenter ant does not sting, but the larger workers can administer a sharp bite, which can become further irritated by the injection of formic acid, which they produce."

...although they mostly bite other ants.

After posting about the carpenter ants I went to the Books. They dont bite. They do, as was mentioned above, Have some that can. So thats that. I learned something there. I have never thought about the amonia solution. Seems like something to consider.
They say if you can learn something new every day you are rich. I consider myself enriched. Thanks.

I remember my Mom doing that for me once or twice when i was a kid and got stung by bees. As i recall it seemed to help. Though of course it's always hard to tell about that sort of thing without a direct comparision. :D
