Anti-Knife Bill Introduced in Nevada

The following is just my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. If i was still in school & some crazy person came in shooting (gee, that never happens does it ?), if they ever got to me, i would like to be able to at least try to stop them before they killed me or some more students/staff. Soooo then, in the intrest of safety, no one should be armed except the crazy person ? I guess we should just pray they do not choose us next----OH, WAIT, we can't pray in school either ! If ANY public/private place or business has a NO WEAPONS policy, then they should also provide on premesis armed security, because they are denying you your right to protect yourself. Our local BlockBuster Video store just went out of business. They liquidated thier inventory. I made sure to go there, just to say how happy i was that they went under. I was asked why i would say that. I replied that it was because of thier NO WEAPONS policy in the store. When i learned of this, i went there & asked if i could borrow a pair of scissors. Then , i asked to confirm thier policy & was told yes, i then cut up my membership card & walked out. Thier own employee's said they were not aware of that policy, yet the manager said they all signed papers to that effect !

Ok. You guys make some valid points and I agree. There is nothing a law would do to deter someone bent on doing harm. And yes a pencil would be just as dangerous.

I was stabbed with a pencil in grade school. When it happened I had a pocket knife in my pocket that never came out, even after I was stuck (however, I did slam the kid's arm with one of those flip top desk lids:mad:).

It was quite normal for the boys to carry pocket knives. Once I even brought a pellet gun in for show and tell...the only concern the teacher had was to make sure I didn't bring the pellets to class.

Years later I was working in a hospital and I pulled out my SOG multitool to open something and a nurse manager started going off about no knives being allowed in the hospital. I reminded her I was a doctor who does surgery there everyday and I pulled a handful of scalpels out of my pocket and asked her what I should use for bedside debridements? I was reported to my department head who told me never to get caught by that particular nurse again;)

I wonder if they are going to ban those left handed safety scissors next?

Dont reside and never even been to Nevada, other than a plane change in vegas! But I think it is important to get the word around that Doug Ritter at Kniferights.org does work so hard for us to be able to carry edged tools! So if you haven t already go on his site and make a donation, cause chances are he will someday fight for something in your own state!

While I agree that allowing knives in some inner city school is a bad idea, I'd prefer the county or school district to set the rule rather than the state. It's unfair to have a knife ban in a district with non existent gang problem. State law in this case is a one-size-fits-all solution that doesn't actually fit all.

If they want to emphasize the seriousness of the matter, they can make carrying a knife in a place prohibited by the county / school district a state felony.
