I'm looking for something other than Norton. I've heard AVG was free and pretty good however I cann't find a free AVG download. I am willing to pay for a good anti virus program but don't know much about them since I've only ever used Norton. Advise please.

I have used AVG for the past 2 years and its the best anti virus program I have used. I payed for it though, I didnt get it free.

comodo makes a good antivirus and a firewall free to use but for the past 5 years i have been using avast. its free to use also and it works just as well.

For free, AVG all the way. If you have an IT department at your job, see if they are licensed for end users at home. Some AV software suites provide free licenses to home users of a business.

avg's hard to beat, i've used it for a pretty good while {years}and it's done well. of course the main thing with any antivirus is to keep it updated. hey it's free so if you don't like it you're not out anything.

I agree, I've used Comodo for over a year without any problems. I had Avast(i) on my computer, but went with the Comodo just the same. 'Free Hippo.com has lots of stuff like avg on it check there.

I've been using AVG (free) for at least 5 years, no problems at all. You do have to hunt through the site some to find the free download, but it's there.

AVG rulez!

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

Looks like AVG is the one. Thanks to everyone. I was fairly happy with Norton until I tried to remove it. Never again.
I'd of never guessed this forum for this kind of post.

The eight machines I maintain all run Microsoft's Live OneCare.

I've been buying it at Costco for $9.99 each year for the past few.

You can use one license for 3 machines, so that is another plus.

I use AVG, but I might switch to avast, because AVG slows down the computer escpecially when playing online video games :D

I use AVG but have heard that Avast is very good as well.

For spyware, adaware and such, which is not necessarly picked up by antivirus programs I highly recommend sunbelt software counterspy. Its $20 for the first year and then I think like $12 there after. Had it for 3 years now and really pleased.

They do a free trial for 20 days or so http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-Office/CounterSpy/

This has recieved top ratings in custom PC in the UK and online computer magazines

I have had good results with AVG. I used the free version on the old computer, and then subscribed with AVG with the new machine. Nice product, it runs in the background and automatically scans and updates itself.
