anti virus suggestions

I have not used it. By the way, everything I have ever read says, 'never run more than one AV on your computer at the same time'. You can mix spywares but many times having more than one AV will severely overtax the system and can cause conflict errors and other problems. Personally if I were you, I'd remove that Norton from your system.

Well I went a bit crazy when I built my computer, the tower alone stands me at $6000 so I dont notice any overtaxing lol. Even with all these programs active my CPU idles very low. I gotta say I have never heard that, been doing it for 2 years now and they all like each other. Must of been a lucky guess

I maintain 43 computers and I run AVG on the XP's and Mcafee on Vista's problem free
When I see Norton on a machine I charge extra! lol :)DELETE now!
running more than one spy ware or AV is redundant takes up system resources, slows start up and could have conflicts with other software you only need one of each the AVG free bee is OK for checking email, surfing at low tide, but I recommend you break down for a paid version for surfing high tide, gaming, or leaving you computer on all the time.
I agree with renomaverick, but use revo uninstaller to kill all of Norton, Norton's uninstall will NOT remove all of it. MY personal opinion is that they have been bought out by some or several spyware companies and allow certain programs to run. Norton is not what it use to be when Peter still owned the company. IMHO only.

I agree that running more than one anti spy or anti virus program at the same time where you are scanning the computer with them both simultaneously is a bad idea but if you are saying having more than one anti spyware program on your computer causes conflicts I have not seen it or experienced it in any of our computers unlike having more than one AV. Having more than one AV is a recipe for possible computer crashes based on what I've read in reports.

Personally I have seen more conflicts between my music players than anything else I've run to date, but with anti spy it seems to me the way most AV programs are coming today to be both an anti spy and anti virus program all in one makes it so that many folks already have more than one Anti Spyware program on their computer and also most reviews tell us that no one anti spyware program can remove all threats. If anyone has record of some anti spyware programs that don't mix well together though I'd like to hear about it.

I use CA AV+AS. I am told Microsoft runs thison their own computers but what really sold me was the lightweight footprint of the programs, the unobtrusive information window (McAfee used to BEG me to click on it constantly). It is very fast and is the best-designed AV I have used. After finding McAfee and Norton as annoying as the ad/spyware they are supposed to protect against, CA AV is like a breath of fresh air.

My other computers run OSX and Linux so those computers aren't an issue. I would run ClamAV if I really felt the need to though.

For a long time I used an old computer and no antivirus or spyware programs. Right before I took it down and replaced it I downloaded an Antivirus program and scanned it. I was pretty shocked to find I didn't have any virus on it. I also tried one of those online scanners.I used it for 5 years without any of these programs. Lucky I guess?

geesh u were lucky !! Did you have a good firewall ? Thats something else I would recommend from sunbelt software, their firewall. Nope I am not a seller for them lol
I am wondering also what are the databases like for the full version of AVG when you have to manually remove a serious threat ?

Thats why I liked Norton but I do agree its a hog and a pain sometimes

I had never heard of AVG until it was recommended in this forum. I've been using it for years - and, because I have the time, I do quick "manual" updates several times a day! I also run SpyBot, AdAware, and CCleaner.

I had been using Norton until a friend recently told me about Avast. I've been using it for a couple months with no problems

Avira Anti-Vir
2+ years on my Windows machines so far without a problem.
Haven't put anti-virus on my Linux box yet. Not sure that I really need it.....yet.
