So, I was in Virginia this past weekend and I ended up in an antique market, on the hunt for knives. Typical.

So I went in, and was greeted with this.

Case, Buck, Western, Camillus, etc. I was in heaven (and Hell at the same time!) :o

Since i'm not made of money, I picked what caught my eye and left.

Case Whaler

Western Barlow

Western 422 (I'm not sure of the pattern on this one)

"Penguin" lighter

Solid Brass Zippo

And what I believe is a cigar box

All of this cost me $92.45, a pretty hefty sum but I am quite happy. The knives were just above $20 each IIRC.

I also bought another wooden box with red felt on the inside, but it's nothing special so I didm't include it.

So, what do my fellow slipjoint nuts think of my haul? :)

Wow! What a great place! Nice haul! :)

That's awesome. I like all the knives, especially the whaler, those are some cool finds thanks for sharing your treasures.

Nice haul - and I really like the old cigar (Cuban?) box.

Unfortunately, the places I find usually have broken, poorly kempt knives dumped into a bowl or basket for $1 each. Junk, IOW. I'd love to find a place like that.

Very nice group indeed! I smoked those 8-5-8s for years until the price jumped over $6 each. Best cigar money can buy, in my opinion.

That's the town I live in. Must have been south of Fredericksburg. Was it just off I-95 (to east) in tan building(s) with, IIRC, red roof. You don't recall the name of the market do you? Thanks. I'm a furloughed federal civil servant looking for something to fill my time.

The only thing I remember about it is that inside the place were dozens of different booths filled with antique stuff, and no one in those booths. A couple of nice ladies in the front were running the joint, if you needed something you asked them to come to the booth and help you. I don't remember the name of the market, sorry. :(

Thanks, if in historic Fredericksburg, it could have only been one of a couple of places with that description. I burn a couple of hours down there tomorrow. I'll recognized the vinyl tile from your photo as it's the same I had in my kitchen before replacing it.

Hi CJZ -

Nice choices! I see a few older Buck boxes in there.....

We call places like that "Antique Malls" and I found several in Fredericksburg -

Did the outside of the place look like this?

Love that Western Barlow. I picked one up off the bay a few months back but yours is a much nicer example.

Nice score all around.

That's at William and Caroline Street. Also one at 211 William Street and one at 1023 Caroline Street.

Nope, sorry. I remember it being near the highway, kind of alone.

I love mine as well. The talk on both blades is pretty weak, but it's an awesome little Barlow.

The Whaler and the 422 are different stories. They have very good snaps.

The first Whaler I picked up (there were four) had a weak walk and talk, so I put it down and tried each one. The one I bought had an awesome snap, that's why I chose it out of the four. It's great!

Yup- there was even a new or like new in box Buck 701 stockman. I was drooling, but they wanted like $60 for it. I had already spent too much :o

I'm fairly certain I know which you are speaking about. Thanks!

Sounds like the Virginia Bazaar in Ladysmith (not really a town) about 15 miles south (I-95 exit 110) of Fredericksburg only open on Saturdays and Sundays.

Not sure, but it's worth a shot!

(Please don't be mad at me if that's not the place:))
