I just got the photos back from Chuck Ward, so here goes. The blade is 8 1/4 inch and the handle is of box design with bone scales. The overall design is based on a Dr. Batson drawing. The edges of the box are fileworked.
Don, yes I will have it in Atlanta. The filework is a rope pattern on the main frame top and bottom with it changing on the end facets of the coffin. The sides of the box, which were .032, were coined with a checkering file. For a better picture of the handle I will have a link to Dr Batsons desig and specs, which I followed very closely. The blade keeps its wedge shape all the way through the tang. So, the slot in the guard is a tough one, but I discovered a way to make it easier. I milled the back of the guard similar to the way I would a regular guard, but only half way through the material, affectively making my hand filing a much lighter duty job. In other words, I made the 1/8 inch material 1/16 right where The blade goes through the guard and did my filing of the slot. The handle covers the milled area on the back of the guard and provides a keyway affect for the epoxy.
Here is the link. After you get there, click on Sept 04. Lin http://www.ncknifeguild.org/newsletters.htm
