I have recently aquired an antique tortoise shell box that I have cut up for scales and have decided to sell some.
All of the sets are 1/8 in thick, which is very rare for Tortoise. The panels are about .050 thick but would work well for inlays, interframe or window frame folders.
There are different species of tortoise and it seems that most of the color on these pieces is near the top so I would suggest when working with it that you thin it out from the back like mammoth ivory.
Some pieces have holes in them but they are small and could be incorporated into the knife or ground off when profiling the knife handle.
